I am part black, but I don't have any sort of a black appearance, so people talk to me differently than they would talk to black people.
I used my black heritage to possibly secure my hiring into that company because I really only had 3.6gpa. I don't know how much of a factor that check box made in my application process, but I spoke to an HR personnel in an informal unplugged environment a few years after I was hired.
These were her exact words, "...I never realized you were part black, but with a 3.6 GPA, that was definitely a factor. Otherwise, you wouldn't have been hired".
It didn't feel too good to hear that to be honest.
My appearance is relevant tbecaus I hear whites and Asians talk a lot mess about blacks and Latinos and the "quota bumps" that they receive. These are all progressive Democrats btw. A lot of the black and Latinos in company perform poorly, and people associate that with the lower standard. There are also a lot of good black and Latino employees and when they do well and get recognized, jealous haters will discredit them by implying they only got recognized for diversity. One time my staff were saying shyt about the quota systems, they were all women, 2 white and 2 Asians. They all respect me and look to me for technical advice as well as career advice. I told them that I used the quota system, and they basically said, "well you're very smart and hard working so it's different." I was upset about what they said, but I just kept it to myself.
Asians get all bent out of shape because even though the company out here is 20-40% Asian there are 4 times as many black partners. Black guys are just better leaders and better with client relationships and selling services to clients. The Asian introverts are good for crunching numbers and getting work done, but they aren't that good a leading teams and interacting with the client. At least that is my general observation.
