I currently have a two-door, and it's becoming a big problem right now (I have kids). I thought I could deal with it, but putting kid in car seat in a 2-door is a nightmare.

this is what I have been looking at

Audi S4 2014 6-speed mt -- I like this car a lot. However, I have driven RWD my whole adult life. It's a big change for me. Seems a little pricey for what I get too

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...&mmt=[AUDI[S4[]][]]&listingId=395693985&Log=0

2012 BMW 6 speed --- I am appalled that it is still 39k for a 2012. I also don't like turbo lag.

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...[BMW[][3_SERIES[]]]&listingId=396354442&Log=0

2015 4-door Mini Cooper S 6 speed -- I saw one on the road recently. It was all black and it looked pretty clean. Bad thing is we already have a 2014 countryman S, so we will be the Mini Cooper family on block. I don't really like that. However, this would be sub 30k, which is good.

Other options-- 4-door tundra? Maxima , Altima. 4-door tocoma.

Non options.

5 series or Audi 6 (too big)
anything with a Honda badge or a Toyota sedan (life is too short to be boring)
4 series grand coupe ( it is a little out of my budget, and it will remind me of my dream car (M4), which is impractical for me now)
C-class (too boring no manual option.)

There's still about $3,000 of wiggle room in that Audi S4. $42,500 is probably what they paid for it at auction. It's going to take a $8,000 depreciation hit. And another $4,000 after that. So you'll be down about $12,000 in 2 years. Your down payment will eat some of that. But that's harsh any way you look at it.

You have to be REALLY careful with luxury cars in their first 3 years. Once those leases hit the market, depreciation is a bytch. Owning a Audi, in particular, outside of warranty also affects depreciation. Expensive repairs.

That 335i has about $6k of room in it. Which is typical. 3's sell like hot cakes and dealers know that. It's already took it's biggest depreciation hit and 3 series hold their value. So if you can get them to bring the price down it's a good buy. I'm just not a 3 series guy.

No comment on the mini.

I'm a mid/large sized sedan type of guy. So I can't help you with suggestions. But if you have pricing questions might be able to help you out.

Probably a Ford Focus ST is in your realm of your budget.

my budget is 50k. I feel like Audi S4s and BMW 3s are all over the place. How are they luxury cars when I see S4s/3's more often than civics and camry's? That's why I don't like the used resale prices that I am seeing. I might as well buy a brand new one.

I like the cars for their performance stats, not because I want to show off.

If there were more sporty small sedans (280hp) rwd/awd , with a manual option That were available, I wouldn't gravitate towards s4/3.

It's not like the old days. oh well

That BMW is ridiculously overpriced. $39k for a 2012? I bought my 2011 in 2013 for $32k.

I'd say look at a Lexus GS. Good car.

for good reason I suppose, it's the current gen model, it's certified, it's a 335 as opposed to the 328 and has less than 10k miles. :manny:

and it's a BMW so the brand alone screams premium. :skip:

Terrible price
40K for a 2012 3 series :scust:

OP

I'm in the same market and love small 4 door sedans
I've researched them and ended up with a 335i a few years ago and drive a A4 now. I'm looking at leasing a S4 or 335i next year

First things first. You are not going to get too much luxury anymore
These cars are "sports luxury now and unless you go to the higher series you will not see too much rich interiors.

At that price point a used CTS would be your best bet. It has the most luxurious interior imo in that class. But the new body just came out and it's a lot of expense. I think the ATS is bland overall on the outside

I honestly think a S4 is your best bet. You should be able to get one with very low mileage for 40K. The S4 has very nice styling inside and out. Engine has more than enough power. Quattro is amazing. Winter was a much better experience for me with AWD. Make sure you get one with sports differential or get installed later.

Eh... :manny: 10k miles is basically a new car.
