George Papadopoulos is the ‘John Dean’ of the Russia investigation, his fiancee says
He has been mocked by President Trump as a “low level volunteer” and “proven to be a liar.”
But the fiancee of George Papadopoulos, the former Trump campaign adviser who pleaded guilty in October to lying to the FBI about his Russia contacts and is cooperating with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, says he is being miscast.
“I believe history will remember him like John Dean,” said Italian-born Simona Mangiante, referring to the former White House counsel who pleaded guilty to his role in the Watergate coverup and then became a key witness against other aides to President Richard Nixon.
Dean told Nixon in 1973 that Watergate was a “cancer on the presidency,” warning him that it was an existential crisis that could imperil his term in office.
“George is very loyal. And he is on the right side of history,” added Mangiante, who got engaged to Papadopoulos in September.

Mangiante said she was advised by Papadopoulos’s lawyers not to answer specific questions about his activities during the 2016 presidential campaign or what he has told the FBI.
But she indicated in an interview that she believes he ultimately will emerge as more than a bit player in the Russia probe — and that his decision to cooperate after he was arrested getting off an airplane at Dulles International Airport in July was a key turning point.:weebaynanimated::Muellerlmao:
Without offering specifics, Mangiante said there is much more that has not yet been told publicly about Papadopoulos’ 10 months as an informal national security adviser to Trump and his interactions with a London-based professor who told Papadopoulos, according to court filings, that the Russians had “dirt” on Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.:weebaynanimated::FBIMuellerLaugh:
“There’s a lot to come,” she said. “He was the first one to break a hole on all of this.”
She said Papadopoulos was not a “coffee boy,” as he was once tagged by former Trump adviser Michael Caputo, a nickname she found especially galling. “I know what it means as a young person to do all the efforts you do to build your career and be dismissed as a coffee boy,” she said.
Despite restraints placed on her by the terms of Papadopoulos’ ongoing cooperation agreement with the special counsel, Mangiante said she has been speaking to reporters to defend his reputation and try to explain how the lives of her and the Chicago-born former energy consultant have been upended by the events of the last year.
Mangiante said she has been extensively interviewed by Mueller’s team, who asked about her own brief stint working for Joseph Mifsud, the same London professor who offered to connect the young Trump aide with the Russians.:PutinTrollFace:

Mangiante, who was born near Naples and trained in law and international relations, said she met Mifsud while working with the European Parliament in Brussels.
Mifsud, a former Maltese government official who had an affiliation with an Italian university, was friendly with the head of the parliament’s socialist party and was often at receptions or events, she recalled. Eventually, Mifsud offered her a job at one of his London organizations.
Mangiante accepted in July 2016 but said she only worked for the group for three months, quickly concluding that it was “a facade for something else.”
She said she never heard Mifsud discuss Russians but quit when she was asked by his partner to attend a secret meeting to discuss Iraq in Tripoli. “I thought it was very suspicious,” she said.:FuturamaFry:
Mangiante said she heard about Papadopoulos, who at the time was serving as a Trump adviser, during her brief time at Mifsud’s group. But she said did not meet him until the spring of 2017, after his involvement with Trump had ended. Soon, the two were communicating online and, after meeting in London, quickly fell into a romance,:conceitedsideeye: she said. They spent the spring and summer traveling together in Europe. Though Papadopoulos had been interviewed by the FBI in January and again in February, she said he did not seem concerned at the time about what could be coming.

“We went from paradise to hell,” she said.
She said she was in Chicago with his family at the time and the following weeks were stressful and scary. His decision to make a deal with prosecutors and plead guilty to one felony while cooperating with the FBI, she said, was ultimately not a tough one.
“It was brave,” she said. “It wasn’t hard, but it was brave . . . It’s always easiest to say the truth about everything.”
Mangiante said she is now spending much of her time in the United States because Papadopoulos is barred from traveling by the terms of his agreement. The date of his sentencing has not been set yet.
“This has changed his life forever,” she said.

Charles Kushner walked recently into his corner office on Fifth Avenue, his window framing a view of nearby Trump Tower. On the wall was a magazine cover of his son Jared Kushner, headlined “This Guy Got Trump Elected,” along with a photo of daughter-in-law Ivanka Trump.
The office scene seemed serene, but the spotlight sometimes has been harsh in the year since the younger Kushner left the family business to become President Trump’s senior adviser. Investigations have been launched into the business, and Jared Kushner at one point testified before Congress that he never discussed his company’s search for financing while meeting with a Russian banker during the presidential transition.
Charles Kushner, who founded Kushner Cos. and now works without a title, talks with his son every day. But until now he has remained publicly silent as questions have been raised about Jared Kusnher and whether the company, a property development business, benefited from his powerful job. One reason for that silence may have stemmed from the 63-year-old Kushner’s background. He was convicted in 2005 of several federal crimes and spent 14 months in an Alabama federal prison, where his son visited him almost every weekend. The younger Kushner declared that the charges were unfair and spoke up on his father’s behalf.:ComeyUfdup:
Now it is the father speaking up on behalf of his 37-year-old son. In his first interview since his son entered the White House, Charles Kushner said the company has no concerns about the investigations and dismissed suggestions that his son’s work with Trump has made it harder to obtain financing for the family’s many real estate projects.:Muellerlmao:
The company acknowledged last year that the U.S. attorney in Brooklyn had subpoenaed information regarding Kushner Cos. projects that used a program in which foreigners can invest $500,000 in exchange for fast-track status for U.S. residency and possible citizenship. And the company confirmed to The Washington Post in December that it has voluntarily turned over documents regarding a $285 million loan from Deutsche Bank that Jared Kushner obtained for the firm one month before Election Day. “All I know is that we are not at all concerned, and we are cooperating,” Kushner said in a half-hour interview at his headquarters at 666 Fifth Avenue.“And they can knock themselves out for the next 10 years reading those papers as far as I’m concerned.”
Kushner said he has been given no indication that the firm is being investigated by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, who is examining whether Russia colluded with the Trump campaign. Congressional officials have raised questions about whether the Kushners sought financing from Russian sources to redevelop the 41-story Fifth Avenue tower. The building’s fate has long been in doubt in the face of a $1.2 billion loan that Jared Kushner arranged and that comes due in a year.
“No. Nothing. Not heard. If you want to know the truth, no one has contacted us” from Mueller’s office, Charles Kushner said.
Mueller’s office declined to comment.
Still, the criticism of his son, and the questions about whether Jared Kushner left behind a troubled company, have been searing.
“I try not to focus in my life on the haters, but it’s just — I have never seen anything like this,” Kushner said.
A spokesman said Jared Kushner follows an ethics agreement in which he agrees not to discuss the company business with his family or anyone else.
Jared Kushner took over the company when he was 25 years old. The sudden ascension became necessary after his father, a major Democratic Party donor, was convicted in 2005 on federal charges of tax evasion, witness tampering and making illegal campaign donations, including some in Jared Kushner’s name. The prosecutor was then-U. S. “His siblings stole every piece of paper from his office, and they took it to the government,” Jared Kushner told the magazine. “Siblings that he literally made wealthy for doing nothing. He gave them interests in the business for nothing. All he did was put the tape together and send it. Was it the right thing to do? The younger Kushner, who said in the New York magazine interview that “I speak with my father about everything in my life,” never forgot the way Christie prosecuted his father. He helped prevent Christie from getting a major post in the Trump administration, according to a White House official.
As some of Charles Kushner’s associates kept their distance, he relied on his son even more. Jared Kushner changed the company’s course almost immediately after taking over. Charles Kushner had run the business from New Jersey, where the company owned thousands of apartments. The younger Kushner gambled by selling off many of the apartments to buy the 666 Fifth Avenue tower and moved the company headquarters to the site, one of the most prized in Manhattan.
The timing was terrible. Jared Kushner’s $1.8 billion purchase was the highest price at the time for an office building in the United States. A real estate meltdown sent prices tumbling, and the younger Kushner made several deals to save the building, culminating with the $1.2 billion loan that is due next January.

1. Of course the Kushners aren't worried. If Jared can't skate he'll cooperate and take the lighter sentence. If they somehow manage to escape all of this, he'll continue to live life as he does now. If he doesn't, it won't matter if he cooperates because his father-in-law and his family will be next to ruined.
2. The whole "administration official X" has threatened to resign stories seem planted. Take the Kelly story for instance, why would you threaten to quit when essentially that is what is desired of you? The Wray story makes slightly more sense only in that he could use his resignation as leverage since pressure to fire McCabe would be something Mueller and team would be very interested in.
3. Twitter is going to play wack-a-mole with Russian Bots forever. They would have to make significant changes to the Twitter API to slow mass scripted creation and control of accounts to make any sort of dent in their effect.
