i mean i want to make the switch but there isnt enough 4k content out for me to justify putting $1,000+ on these tv's. How would a 4k tv scale watching 1080 movies or live sports? would it look better?

I've watched standard 1080p blu-ray's and Netflix (1080 content) on my set and it looks great. I would say that content looks as good as does on a 1080 set, you only going to get as good as the source material. I actually popped in a dvd and it wasn't bad at all. Obviously the shining point of 4K sets is 4K material, I can tell you that 4K blu-rays and 4K video I've shot looks great, the Youtube 4K feeds look good however you are relying on a compressed signal and available bandwidth.
