Ironically, the article in the OP proved the point that it's the oil companies causing it. But none of y'all read anything other than the thread title.

The US government doesn't own any oil refineries. They can't refine oil themselves, they can only sell oil from the strategic reserve to oil companies and have them refine it. But the oil companies chose to send some of the crude they received to Europe instead of refining it here, likely because they got a better price for it there.

You're pissed off at the capitalist decisions of profit-seeking oil companies and then irrationally blaming the govt/biden for oil company decisions.

I trade crude futures (/CL). This is normal. Once, the oil is out on the market, you have no control on who it's sold to as it goes to the highest bidder.

Of course Biden approved the release. But he doesn't have jack shyt to do with sending it overseas. Of course it says the SPR helps the global oil supply. We've said from the beginning that Biden can't control where the companies send it. He knows that, every informed person knows that, apparently OP and those running with him are the only confused ones.

From the beginning, we've tried to point out to uninformed people that oil prices are global and presidents have little control over them. Our system gives the oil companies the vast majority of control.

You appear to be fully aware that Biden had zero ability to keep the oil refined in America for American gas. So seriously, what are you blabbering about? What is the opposite decision you think would have reduced prices more?
