SHREVEPORT, La. — New G-Unit signage posted outside a downtown work zone is the latest indication of how Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is expanding the reach of his brand in Shreveport.
New fencing now surrounds the site planned for Jackson’s “G-Dome,” a permanent multi-purpose event arena intended to function similarly to the Sphere in Las Vegas. State Rep. Steven Jackson said the rapper’s team is moving quickly to begin construction, though an exact start date has not been disclosed.
“They are on a very intense and accelerated timeline to do a lot of projects,” Jackson said. “There are several projects that are in the works.”
One of those projects includes the vacant M.L. Bath building at 610 Market Street, which is under contract to become the next property acquired by Jackson. If the deal closes, he will own 13 properties in the downtown district.
The building, constructed in 1921, was marketed as a potential apartment complex, but Jackson said plans for its use have not been finalized.
“Some of these properties may serve as a set for TV or film, but they also can be used for everyday businesses, whether it’s coffee, pizza, a club or restaurants,” he said. “The goal, I think, is to probably replicate what we’ve seen they’re doing in Hollywood.”
The proposed G-Dome site previously operated as a meat-packing facility in the 1920s. Extensive safety work, including the removal of underground tanks, was required before development could begin. Jackson said those measures are complete and the land has been deemed free of contamination.
Salute to 50 the the moves he’s making here, are probably his biggest accomplishment in his career
