You are not paying for the shoebox, you are paying to live in one of the greatest cities in the world. shyt is the same in every top city, from London to Hong Kong to Paris to San Francisco. People from all over the world want to move to these cities, particularly well educated people looking for high paying jobs thereof the prices.

No one is getting conned, people want to live in these places and they fight for them.
If you want access to what the city offers, in terms of social and professional offerings and that's whats important there's really not too many places that you can move to and live cheaper. If you're not about that life, there's plenty of cities that can offer you want to you want

people think buying a house is an investment...but its a money trap.

The average appreciation over the years is 1%.
