I disagree, what you hear on the airwaves is what the record labels present to you. If they wanted you to hear conscious music all day on the radio then you would. You think the same people who was 13 when GRODT came out actually want to hear "Thrift Shop" as 23 year olds? No they don't but if they force feed you something enough you'll learn to accept it. If they pushed Webbie and Boosie on you as much as they did that song then those same fans would support that as well. When they forced DMX on you you loved it, if they forced another DMX on the ppl they would love that too. Yep.2013 is better than 2007 in every way. Back then all you heard was one hit wonders with no lyrics like soulja boy and laffy taffy dudes. Now you got K Dot and Cole and other young lyrical dudes making good music and selling.

The likes of Nas still drop albums and get critical praise. Only the underachieving rappers complain cause their music isn't versatile to last over time. The real nikkas like Beanie Sigel done their careers by themselves. Rap is better off without hard headed dudes causing pointless drama in every industry event.

I always fukked with both albums pretty heavy, Graduation has aged better but Curtis was my shyt at the time. "Gun Go Off", "Man Down", "Come n Go", "Curtis 187", "Follow My Lead". He just fukked up dropping one of the worst songs he's ever made as the main single in "Amusement Park".

Regardless of Kanyes success, hip hop was moving in that direction already IMO.

With that said Dr. Dre's "Been There, Done That" would've been a cool song today . . exact same hook but with less lyrical justification for his departure from gangsta rap

Andre 3000 was killing everything he was featured on. There were some great collaborations that year. Lupe Fiasco broke through on the mainstream front that year and the album was dope. Jay Z came back with a stronger project. Scarface made a return to dropping solo albums.
