WBC / WBO super bantamweight champion Stephen Fulton Jr. will battle former WBA / IBF champion Danny Roman in a match-up between two crowd-pleasing fighters on Showtime Championship Boxing on Saturday, June 4th in a Premier Boxing Champions event from The Armory in Minneapolis. The telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and will feature WBA 168-pound regular champion David Morrell Jr. taking on Kalvin Henderson in the co-feature.

Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Pa., Fulton (20-0, 8 KOs) faced tough competition while rising up the 122-pound rankings to earn the opportunity that saw him become a champion and eventually a unified champion. In his last 14 fights, the 27 year-old has beaten eight previously undefeated fighters. After taking the title from Angelo Leo in January 2021, he edged out Brandon Figueroa in November to unify titles in one of the year’s best fights. Trained in his hometown by coach Wahid Rahim, Fulton has displayed sublime boxing skills that have allowed him to dominate opponents of varying styles and control fights from start to finish.

"I’m ready to defend my titles once again against ‘Danny boy’," said Fulton. "I expect Roman to be excited and on point. He’s looking at this fight as a comeback, so he’ll be ready. This is his biggest fight to date. Fight fans should just make sure to tune in to this fight because when I fight I always put on a great show and June 4th won't be any different."

Roman (28-3-1, 10 KOs) will have a chance to regain his unified 122-pound championship status on June 4th. The 31 year-old from Los Angeles has won back-to-back fights, earning unanimous decision victories over former titlist Juan Carlos Payano in September 2020 and Ricardo Espinoza Franco in May 2021. Roman first became a champion in 2017, when he stopped Shun Kubo for the WBA title. Roman would go on to unify titles by beating TJ Doheny for his IBF strap in 2019, before losing a split decision to Murodjon Akhmadaliev in January 2020.

“Words can’t describe how excited I am to be back in the ring, fighting for the world titles on SHOWTIME,” said Roman. “Fulton is an undefeated champion who has never tasted defeat, but I have plans to take his belts. I have confidence in myself that I’m going to come out on top based on my skill and experience. I’m having a great camp and the fans should be tuning in because I’m going to be in the best shape of my life. I’m grateful to my team for working hard to make this fight happen. I’m going to make this fight a war on June 4.”

Now based in Minneapolis, Morrell has shown off the prodigious talents that made him a standout in Cuba’s iconic amateur scene since arriving stateside in 2019. The 24-year-old captured an interim title by dominating then unbeaten Lennox Allen in August 2020. Morell, who trains in Texas with renowned coach Ronnie Shields, thrilled the crowd at The Armory in his adopted hometown twice in 2021. He stopped the previously unbeaten Mario Cazares in round one in June before dominating veteran contender Alantez Fox on his way to a fourth-round stoppage in December.

“I’m super excited to be able to have the opportunity to fight in my second home of Minneapolis,” said Morrell. “I’m ready to shine at The Armory once again on June 4th. It’s going to be an amazing feeling to have that support on fight night and I’m working hard in training to make sure I can deliver for the fans.”

The 31 year-old Henderson (15-1-1, 11 KOs) has won three of his last four fights, including three stoppage victories in 2021. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Henderson bounced back from a decision loss against unbeaten Isiah Steen to stop Robert Burwell in his most recent outing in October. Henderson turned pro in 2016, winning his first 12 bouts before a majority draw against Genc Pllana in December 2019.

"I feel this is an excellent opportunity to show who I am on a national network for a WBA title,” said Henderson. “A lot of pros never get the chance to fight for a world title and for me to get this opportunity 17 fights in is amazing. All I ever wanted was an opportunity. Even though he is young, Morrell is a game opponent. He comes from the Cuban program, but we have a great game plan to take this world title back home.”

“Fans at The Armory in Minneapolis and watching on Showtime are in for another treat on June 4 with a battle between unified champion Stephen Fulton and former unified champion Danny Roman that is destined to deliver dramatic action,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Adding in the exciting rising star David Morrell Jr. returning to fight in his adopted hometown against Kalvin Henderson, and June 4 is lined up to be another can’t-miss night of high-stakes fights.”

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Warriors Boxing, are on sale now and can be purchased at the Armory at You are being redirected... and through Ticketmaster. The Fulton vs. Roman fight is promoted in association with Thompson Boxing.

Super sharp. If somehow we can get Monster vs Fulton at 122 (Inoue wants to move up and Fulton has stated that’s the one fight he would stay at 122 for) in the near future, who would you pick?
honestly im still going with monster but depends on how their next fights turn out next weekend

Unbeaten super lightweight Karl Dargan will face Alfredo Santiago in a 10-round showdown, while exciting super welterweight prospect Travon Marshall duels Marcus Washington in a six-round attraction highlighting non-televised undercard action this Saturday, June 4 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from The Armory in Minneapolis.
The card is topped by a much-anticipated showdown between unified WBC and WBO Super Bantamweight World Champion Stephen Fulton Jr. and former unified champion Danny Roman headlining live on SHOWTIME beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. In the co-main event, WBA Super Middleweight Champion and Minneapolis fan-favorite David Morrell Jr. steps in to defend his title against Kalvin Henderson.
Tickets for the event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Warriors Boxing, are on sale now and can be purchased at the Armory at You are being redirected... and through Ticketmaster. The Fulton vs. Roman fight is promoted in association with Thompson Boxing.
The jam-packed non-televised lineup will also feature California featherweight prospect José Sánchez (8-0, 5 KOs) in an eight-round fight against fellow unbeaten Ariel De La Torre (8-0, 6 KOs) and Las Vegas’ Demler Zamora (8-0, 7 KOs) in a six-round super featherweight affair taking on Miami’s Raúl Chirino (19-14, 12 KOs).
Plus, Mayweather Promotions prospect and Baltimore-native Malik Warren (6-0, 5 KOs) takes on Puerto Rico’s Pedro Hernández (7-11-1, 2 KOs) in a six-round super featherweight duel.
Rounding out the card are four Kazakh fighters looking to remain unbeaten. Middleweight Abilkhan Amankul makes his pro debut in a four-round fight against Washington’s Devontae McDonald (1-0, 1 KO), super welterweight Ablaikhan Zhussupov (1-0) faces Mexico’s Edgar Ramírez (18-20-1, 14 KOs) in a four-round attraction, super bantamweight Yevgeniy Pavlov (6-0, 4 KOs) challenges Mexico’s Alexis Salido (2-2, 1 KO) in a six-round showdown and super middleweight Bek Nurmaganbet (6-0, 4 KOs) battles Pennsylvania’s Khainell Wheeler (7-1, 6 KOs) in a six-round duel.
A Philadelphia-native, Dargan (20-1, 10 KOs) returned to the ring for the first time since November 2018 last July, stopping Ivan Delgado in three rounds. Dargan has fought professionally since 2007, turning pro after a sensational amateur career that included two U.S. Amateur Championships and a Pan American Games gold medal. He will be opposed by the Dominican Republic’s Santiago (13-2, 5 KOs) who challenged Devin Haney for the lightweight title in 2019, losing a 12-round decision. As he heads into his second fight stateside as a pro, Santiago most recently dropped a May 2021 contest to contender Ricardo Nunez.
At just 21-years-old, Marshall (5-0, 4 KOs) has quickly shown the skill, power and poise to become a highly-regarded prospect in just five fights. Born in Landover, Maryland and now fighting out of Capitol Heights, Marshall will enter the ring at The Armory for the fourth time, having most recently knocked out the previously unbeaten Timothy Parks at the venue in March. He takes on the Toledo, Ohio native Washington (5-3, 2 KOs), who’s last contest saw him drop a decision to unbeaten Reggie Harris Jr. in October 2021.

Stephen Fulton-Daniel Roman: Weigh-In Results From Minneapolis

fulton-roman%20(1).jpg

BY KEITH IDEC
Published Fri Jun 03, 2022, 02:30 PM EDT
MINNEAPOLIS – With his two championship belts draped over each shoulder, Stephen Fulton confidently stepped toward Daniel Roman to pose for pictures after they made weight Friday afternoon.
Philadelphia’s Fulton will defend his WBC and WBO 122-pound crowns against Roman, a former unified champion, on Saturday night. The mandated match between Fulton (20-0, 8 KOs), who is listed as at least a 5-1 favorite by most sportsbooks, and Roman (29-3-1, 10 KOs) will headline a “Showtime Championship Boxing” doubleheader from The Armory.
Fulton, 27, and Roman, 32, both stepped on the Minnesota Office of Combat Sports’ scale at 121.4 pounds.
Roman is the mandatory challenger for Fulton’s WBC super bantamweight championship. The Los Angeles native also is ranked number one by the WBO in the 122-pound division.
Fulton beat Brandon Figueroa by majority decision in his last bout, a “Fight of the Year” candidate November 27 at Park MGM’s Dolby Live in Las Vegas. Fulton retained his WBO belt and won the WBC belt from Figueroa (22-1-1, 17 KOs) in that “Showtime Championship Boxing” main event.
Roman has won both of his fights since he lost his IBF and WBA 122-pound titles to Murodjon Akhmadaliev in January 2020. Uzbekistan’s Akhmadaliev (10-0, 7 KOs) defeated Roman by split decision in their 12-round fight at Meridian Island Gardens in Miami.
David Morrell Jr. and Kalvin Henderson met their contractual obligations a few minutes before Fulton and Roman made weight.
The Cuban-born Morrell, who resides in Minneapolis, stepped on the scale at 166.6 pounds. Henderson, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, came in exactly one pound heavier, at 167.6 pounds.
Caesars Sportsbook listed Morrell as a 20-1 favorite Friday to defeat Henderson in Showtime’s co-feature. Morrell (6-0, 5 KOs) will defend the WBA’s secondary super middleweight title against Henderson (15-1-1, 11 KOs).
Showtime’s telecast is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET with a replay of Gervonta Davis’ sixth-round, technical-knockout victory over Rolando Romero. Baltimore’s Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) abruptly ended what was a competitive bout with a single counter left hand that dropped Romero (14-1, 12 KOs) late in the sixth round of their Showtime Pay-Per-View main event last Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
