Today I’m in the office because there’s a company wide meeting later and I have to make sure that the Q&A app account is setup properly.

Yesterday the workplace experience guy from the west coast office had me schedule a call for today about “tech in the office from a workplace experience perspective.”

I’m on the east coast and have been working with his NYC equivalent since I started. There’s 6 people in the office today (including me). Unless we’re shutting it down, who cares about the office???

Would I Be Crazy To Throw 5K Into NVIDIA Right Now?
I’ve always been mad at myself for having bought generations of Nvidia GPUs over the years, but having missed out on their stock. I’m probably going in for 1 or 2k

What do you want to know? I’ve only been at this place for 6 months. Earlier in the month, there were rumors of layoffs coming.

Last week HR gave me and the rest of the IT team access to the list of people who were going to be laid off and the times when their HR meetings would take place, 15-minute intervals.

When it was time to start, we hopped into a Google Meet and went down the list shutting down accounts together. Some stuff is automated through Okta, but there’s custom tools and things we had to shut down manually.

There were a few layoffs in November when they made changes among the c-level execs.

At this point, I’m just trying to upskill and get a better job. I was unemployed for 6 months before I got this one and it pays 30% less than my last role.
My company did something similar a couple years back- iirc put impromptu group meeting on peoples calendar and let them know it was their last day. Gave em an hour before they locked them out.

:wtf: Cold blooded af

It didn’t help that they put out a company wide Slack message about “cost reduction” and “impacted roles” as they were adding late in the day meetings to people’s calendars.

I'm getting cold feet about jumping ship to this other company. I do worry if the culture is toxic and the work life balance. I'm at a much smaller company, but the work life balance is great, I have a great manager that appreciates my work and I'm working with strong AI partners. The problem is at times I feel under utilized technically. I'm not doing as much hands on keyboard as much, but I can do more in my off time.

This new role would grant me 20% more but could bring more stress into my career and while I'd be doing more technical stuff it's not the 'sexiest' technology (data warehousing, etc). I have colleagues that work over there that would ensure I'm successful.

Staying with my current company now I could build up my skills and having the proximity of AI would be a huge upshot in my career. I just wouldn't see the dividends of it until 2 - 3 years from now. That also means less pay.

The pay thing is VERY compelling because during these times we're not sure of economic uncertainty. That's a lot of investing that could happen, a lot of money helping family, etc. I feel like that's important too and if I can do the job why not?

I hate I'm agonizing over this.

what role? In any case, goodluck :ehh:
Client side insights lead to feed their product activation yaddayadda, global

Been supplier side for 8+ years quant and qual all phases + sales/client and acct management end to end from design execution and reporting, I can even program up to intermediate.

My actual client another AANGF reached out for interest in a role but I passed swiftly their culture seems horrible

Got a 1:1 with my manager in like 45 minutes. Trying to come up with stuff to talk about. He's been on vacation since just before Christmas.

I got a chatty patty ass manager. So anytime we have a 1 on 1 I just have to mention something pop culture wise and he'll go off so long on it that we have to just rush the actual work topics at the end of the meeting so keeps me from catching heat lol.

What did you decide
Ultimately I decided to stay. My hiring manager is actually surprised but also happy I stayed. I believe that the money will come especially in this AI space because there's so many opportunities within the next few years.

I told the hiring manager and he said while he was disappointed and excited about the opportunity for me to join them, he said keep in touch.

I felt that I wasn't AS excited about the role, I questioned whether or not the culture was good in this climate, so that only lead me to the money.

Where I'm at now I have a lot of social capital within the organization, growing opportunities, a manager that is invested in mentoring me (also a brother which is rare), and a good salary. I think for ME I made the right decision.

Also I'm pretty excited that I'm going to sales kick off this month and NVIDIA GTC for work also so many opportunities to build my brand around technology I'm excited about
