5 children, 3 adults die in fiery Georgia crash, with truck driver facing charges
Eight people, including five children, were killed in a fiery multi-car crash involving a semi-trailer along a Georgia highway, according to authorities.
Family members identified the victims as:
- Maribel Ramírez, 42
- Darwin Ventura, 23
- Kenia Ramírez, 22 and three months pregnant
- Justin Ramírez, 16
- Andy Ramírez, 14
- Natali Ramírez, 11
- Kayle, 4
- Evan Ramírez, 3
ATLANTA (TNND) — Eight people, including five children, were killed in a fiery multi-car crash involving a semi-trailer along a Georgia highway, according to authorities.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety on Tuesday said 33-year-old Kane Aaron Hammock was driving the trailer.
Hammock was arrested on multiple charges, including the following:
The investigation revealed that a semi-trailer was following too closely and struck the rear of a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan," the agency said in a news release. "This caused a chain reaction involving the van and four additional vehicles. After impact, the Dodge van became engulfed in flames along with the tractor-trailer.
- Eight counts of second-degree vehicular homicide
- One count of second-degree feticide by vehicle
- One count of following too closely
- One count of no registration
- One count of driver to exercise due care
Truck driver in I-85 crash that killed 8 people released on bond
Kane Hammock, 33, was released on a $83,000 bond on Thursday.
JEFFERSON, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The driver in a deadly crash that claimed the lives of eight people on I-85 was released on bond, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Hammock is facing a slew of charges in connection to the Monday crash. Those charges include eight counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, second-degree vehicular feticide, following too closely, distracted driving and operating a vehicle without a current plate.
