The unconventional stance is what made his offense so dynamic and unpredictable though...you couldn't tell where the shots were coming from...he would throw his lead left hook from the same stance & position that he'd throw his lead right...it was hard to telegraph...of course his speed played a major factor in this as well...but i'd say his defense was just fine...he got hit less than anybody in boxing history thru his 1st 50 fights.
