im saying child marriage is the issue, if grown ass people are arranged to marriage that is another issue
Arraigned marriage is what creates the pressure to marry little kids off though. No 9-year-old chooses to get married to a 50-year-old man. I've been in multiple cultures where arraigned marriage was a thing, and in every one the pressure for child marriage develops.
1. Families feel enormous pressure (both societal and financial) to marry their daughters off and are afraid it won't happen if they wait.
2. Child marriages are used as compensation for deals made between families. ("If you can't pay back the loan then you'll have to give us one of the girls for my son." "If your son wants to marry my daughter than you have to give away your younger daughter for my son.")
3. Incels and perverts pressure families to give up their daughters to marriages the girls would never agree to on their own.
4. Families force extremely young daughters into arraigned marriages out of fear the girls will ruin their reputation by getting involved sexually if they aren't married off before puberty hits.
All of those pressures are unique to an arranged marriage culture. I'm not saying that arranged marriage by itself is bad - it's fine in individual cases if everyone involved is an adult and they all agree to it. But if the entire culture teaches that arranged marriage is the preference or norm, then a certain % of the marriages end up becoming coercive because those societal pressures will exist.
