My brother was insistent on getting a pit and letting it run loose around my 2 year old nephew and 10 year old niece. I told him he'd never worry about my two girls ever setting foot in that house again. 
He eventually settled on a Boston Terrier, but only because the pit was reported missing and he had a conscience. Some nikkas have to learn the hard way with these dogs, and I hate to say it, but the breed seems to attract a certain type.
