Above the fray.
LL didnt innovate. He took elements from other people and built upon it.

That allowed him to stay relevant longer than his peers.
agree

he took the "let me do a posse song with the hottest street rappers so I can connect to that audience after being a pop star" thing from Heavy D

That's what really helped him extend his career....that was his anchor to the streets, so he wasn't just a love potion rapper

LL was not underrated in the 90's. How he underrated in the 90's when thats the decade when he put out his greatest album (Mama said...) When Mama Said dropped it was similar to when Jay Z dropped Blueprint. Mr Smith era he had hits and he kept the streets on lock with i Shot Ya and 4321....You cant be underrated when you have heat in the streets.

He did fall off lyrically in the 90's tho and Canibus called him out on it. Who had the weakest verse on Flava In Ya Ear remix?

1999 he ended the last century with 2 bangers

Hold on now....He did innovate being a solo rapper totally x ing out the need for a DJ. He came in the game with cut creator but cut creater it seemed was more like a "We have to throw a dj in the mix because thats how the game is" thing and he got overshadowed by LLs presence. LL had it to were the spotlight was strictly on the mc. Kurtis Blow came in the game on some I'm both a dj and an mc shyt.....Doug E Fresh had the "Get fresh crew" who was doing all that cutting on The Show.....Kool Moe Dee came in the game with a DJ and did the solo thing after LL. Someone mentioned T La Rock but he came in the game Djing...LL didnt come in the game as a DJ. Even after LL the game was still on some rapper/dj shyt and we saw this with Rakim, KRS, Kool G Rap, Fresh Prince, Lord Finesse ect. LL was the one who made it to were the game focused strictly on the rapper.

LL also innovated the sex symbol rapper. In the early 80's we were still in that era where u knew the name but hardly saw what the rapper looked like until they were on TV. You know that suspect pic of Pac in the bathtub with the chains? 50 Cents Get Rich or Die trying album cover...The Games Documentary album cover....Look at the "I'm bad" video and ask yourself.....Who really started all that "i gotta show my chest" shyt?

Album is quiet storm rap. Way too much Lip Lickin’ Cool James for my taste on that album.

talking nelly, ja, foxy, kim, puffy, queen pen, missy, timbaland and magoo etc etc...

I’m an R&B fan bro. Not the last 15 years or so aside from a handful of artists but don’t ever think I’m not a singing ass dude. I just can’t pretend to like goofy stuff because it went platinum or whatever.

But your list is awful. Timbo sure in doses and the undeniable Bad Boy hits fine. The rest can burn.

i prefer 80's L and i actually include mama said in there even though it's '90

calling that album a 90's rap record would be like calling to the east blackwards a 90's album. in my mind grand verbalizer is an 80's emcee

anyway.. radio, bigger & deffer, walking with a panther, and mama all get more burn from me than any of the future of the funk's later material. matter of fact 2 weeks ago i was bumpin fast peg

D.C. haircut & stewardess legs :wow:
