L was my favorite rapper from his intro through Mama. after that, I pretty much didnt fukk with him because all the pop tracks wasnt my thing. dont get me wrong, they were dope but I always been a hard rhymer type of guy. L had lost that edge after Mama. I was more on Rakim, Juice Crew, NWA, Main Source which led us right in to Nas and the rest of the newer school. Mr. Smith had some hits but he really only caught my ear one more time with 4, 3, 2, 1 and that was because of Bis.

he's on mine too because when he came in the game there was no one fukking with him, lyrically or otherwise. he was the genesis of the "new school". best lyricist til Ra hit.

my Rushmore is L, Ra, G Rap, Nas (and if I had to replace one, I would put KRS in for Nas)

The Ghetto of Oz
Mama Said Knock You Out = Blueprint

Similar impact on Hiphop and turned the page from the previous decade

Even though the battle that everyone wanted to see was Kane vs Rakim

LL took the main stage and shut it down

LL is top 10 All time

Yeah, early LL was the ultimate MC. He could rhyme his ass off, make the girls go crazy, kill a stage show, make hits, and was constantly emulated. People forget he was one of those guys from his era- the one that a lot of the kids in high school wanted to look like, dress like, rap like, etc... 80s-era LL easily tops 90s LL.

90s LL gave us some great shyt and had his biggest mainstream run for sure, but he also gave us more misfires as well. And he was never at the 'center' after Mama Said. He was a legend who always got his respect and stayed consistent, but his days of bein' THE man had passed by the time he was having that mid-late-90s run.
