dancing was NO-HOLDS BARRED back then.

speaking of which, do yall remember the puppies??

I recently went back & watched this video for the first time since like '94. I never realized how abrasive it was. a video like this would never be aired today.

back then I paid it no mind. it was just normal chit to me. but in hindsight, this video is just :picard:

That is misleading because it's two different groups. Kast didn't make that kind of music and it would be like comparing "Laffy Taffy" or "Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It" to one of T.I. or Jeezy's hits from that era. "Laffy Taffy" and "Lean Wiy It, Rock Wit It" have dances attached to them like "Tootsee Roll", that's built in crowd participation.

What does the difference between their music 'pose to mean? It's was an award show not some underground club. It was a tv broadcast
that needed to cover markets & had ads im sure.

Dont get it confused i dont like that song at all & i love Outkast, but its like asking why the radio are playing jingles & not the "real joints".

I'm just saying the attitude towards what 69 Boyz were doing and what Kast was doing was different. When The Source reviewed SPCM, they were dismissive of groups like 69 Boyz.

Definitely not everybody but a lot of us were. Flex is a clown sometimes & you can't base too much just off his lone opinion. And Outkast was dope to me & many others in NY. I had the Players Ball single real time back then bumping that on my headset. I never liked Master P or Silk. They both were terrible & Master P put out a lot of garbage that helped water down hip hop

Flex may not have played it during HIS mixes, but Elevators did get burn on HOT97 - i even remember it on "Battle of The Beats" at 1 point.

I really appreciate this post. I sat and watched the whole thing again and it brought up so many memories! Bro them categories:wow::wow:

I’m still mad at how Salt N Pepa and them looked when Kast won that award. I mean they were supposed to win! I mean c’mon now... Ill & Al Skratch:mjlol: I liked Bone but I didn’t really get into them until after E. 1999 dropped which was around the time the source awards dropped. I liked their first album, but Kast holds a special place mostly because they repped the hometown. Loved Smif N Wessun but I wouldn’t have given it to them that year either lol... maybe them if Kast didn’t win. Man you definitely could sense the turn in hiphop in that show.. The energy felt weird through the tv I can’t imagine actually being there.

I want to say this takes me back but im still not sure if this track is dead yet.

one of those cuts that never dies.

They wasn't affiliated with So So Def, fucc is you talmbat?

yea that's what I was thinking.

I guess he thought that because they gave a heavy shoutout to so so def.

I think he was trolling tho.
