I grew up in VA. The only time dudes was really dancing like that was during the new jack swing era, and the Kane and Kid n Play shyt back in 88 until like 92.
And then you have go go up in DC, but again... dudes wasn't busting it open on the dance floor like women
The song was a hit. There's no denying it.
All I'm saying is at the time, that shouldn't have been a representation of the south and it's contributions to the rap game. To me it was a sign of disrespect. They were basically saying. Look ya'll. Look at these country ass nikkas on stage twerking. That's the south. They're not on our level. A joke.
The south should've had their won showcase.
Imagine if Ball & MGJ performed this song on stage
problem was none of the groups in the South then had really made any noise in NY. UGK wouldn't have got much of a reception that night cause they still weren't really fukkin with shyt like that up in NY back then. outkast was still new, goodie mob hadn't really made an impact yet.
they shoulda done a Rap-A-Lot showcase and had the Geto Boys perform like I said, cause they had the respect of everyone in that crowd, even back then.

Where are you from?
