dancing was NO-HOLDS BARRED back then.

speaking of which, do yall remember the puppies??

I recently went back & watched this video for the first time since like '94. I never realized how abrasive it was. a video like this would never be aired today.

back then I paid it no mind. it was just normal chit to me. but in hindsight, this video is just :picard:

I remember when I heard this track :picard: I was like WTF these are kids man. I do like that Heavnily father song on their 96 album.

:ohhh:

i never knew they had a second album.
i wasn't exactly sure that they had a first album.

i just noticed something else about that video tho.
i didn't realize that the moms were getting it in. one of them had nothing on under that see-through skirt, or whatever it is. she looked like she was a serious dancer tho. like a hammer-girl reject or something.

You can't rewrite history. No matter how much you hate on Kast.

im not hating on anybody.

and please tell me what im rewriting.

cuz even outkast fans are in here agreeing with me, so you can spin your little narrative elsewhere.

u didn't come in here to argue about outkast either. you stans love to force the issue with me, then hide your hands when it doesn't go well.

NY was the popular girl in school that was captain cheerleader that disrespected her own squad and put people down, especially the band geeks.

The South was the female lead snare drummer that was funny, pretty, and talented, but not popular outside of her circle.

10 years past HS and the NY chick is single, bitter, fat and washed with 4 kids and gives them no attention.

The Southern chick is married, successful, and still maintains her youthful energy. Has 4 kids, she spoils them and they are bad as hell.

Can someone let me know why hip hop went from fun and dancing to hating and drug dealing? Asking for a friend.

There were no Kast "fans" agreeing with you. There was one Kast fan who said that in "94-95, Kast didn't have a hit like 69 Boyz" had to which I responded was misleading. Two different types of music. "Tootsee Roll" is designed to make people dance as it has a dance attached to it much like the snap songs that came out of the A in the '00's.

this thread is funny.

people suggesting that all these southern acts who have posthumous internet followings 20 years after the fact, should've been performing at an awards show.

southern rap wasn't a thing until a few years later, and most of these dudes were never stars. UGK? 8ball & MJG?? '95% of rap-a-lot records. LOL.

this post is not a diss. just saying some of yall get too caught up in whats getting props on the rap forums, and lose touch with what actually happened.
I wonder where rap would be if the south was more embraced back then than it is now.. Rappers from the south in the 90’s were miles ahead of the rappers that benefited after the south blew up. New York wasn’t fukking with the south like that back then of course but now are out here rapping on trap beats smh.

Butt hurt Southern acts have rewritten history, but the booing was because the crowd wanted Smif N Wessun to win the award. They weren't booing Outkast as a group, they were booing the decision to give it to somebody other than them.

Truth is R.A.P. was regional back then, growing up in the south, I didn’t listen to no NY artist or really fukk with y’all media, BET was trying to force East Coast songs on us 24/7 we had our own shyt in the south and I’m not talking dance music just real rap Hell we fukked with the West more, at least they had music you could ride to. The game was different back then and if you wanted to get national exposure you had to be accepted by NY, Hell Face didn’t get love till the Diary but the World is Yours was just as much a classic. the south made their own lane.

Yeah people who weren't around don't get how truly segregated hip-hop was. We've only recently gotten to the point where we dont automatically judge what an artist was supposed to sound like based on where they were from.

Nobody from the South was gonna get cheered over a NY act that night. NY had an elitist complex that them and their media still have to a large degree.

Tootsie Roll was huge and is still arguably the #1 classic dance song for people 35+. It is what thr Dougie and Crank That is to 90's & 00's babies.
