Him head nodding goes against the narrative people love to push about NY'ers hating on the south on this board lol.

For the most part we looked at that kind of rap as party music & that's it. Same with 2 Live Crew

It really doesn't go against that narrative. Biggie shouted out ATL, did shows here including one of the first Birthday Bash shows down here. Also, it's well documented that Biggie caught flack from NY himself while he was alive.

I grew up in VA. The only time dudes was really dancing like that was during the new jack swing era, and the Kane and Kid n Play shyt back in 88 until like 92.
And then you have go go up in DC, but again... dudes wasn't busting it open on the dance floor like women :mjpls:

The song was a hit. There's no denying it.

All I'm saying is at the time, that shouldn't have been a representation of the south and it's contributions to the rap game. To me it was a sign of disrespect. They were basically saying. Look ya'll. Look at these country ass nikkas on stage twerking. That's the south. They're not on our level. A joke.

The south should've had their won showcase.

Imagine if Ball & MGJ performed this song on stage

Dudes in the south danced. I know we did in NOLA. The better dancer you were, the more girls you had on your jock.

The word jock was used in Nine Five

Stop it. New York radio never gave artists from the South a chance and never took the music seriously. Rappers may have fukked with some of it. But back then, Radio DJ's and record labels were the gate keepers.

And back then there was unity in New York. Which lasted until 50 Cent blew up put the nail in that coffin.

Now, for the most part. New York rappers copy off other regions.

What are you talking about? I was saying that Biggie nodding his head doesn't go against the narrative of Ny hating The South.

I don't know about unity in NY. Biggie had NY artists going at him in the 90's.

You've been around long enough here to know that it does. People on this board totally believe we only listened to music from NY & hated everything non NY. That's a fact bro when it's the opposite & a lot of us listened to all regions back in the 90's. We fuked with Cube, Snoop & Death Row heavy back then

My cousin who @spliz knows he reminds me of is Brooklyn born & raised & you can't tell him the greatest rapper of all time ain't Pac/Rakim followed by Ice Cube lol

A lot of NY cats did not like what Puff, and through him, Big, was doing.

I definitely don't think everybody in NY was like that, but I do see the media being biased like that and even some of the artists. Funkmaster Flex talks at length about how he never played "Elevators" and didn't understand how OutKast had so many fans. Others thought No Limit was ruining Hip Hop.

Definitely not everybody but a lot of us were. Flex is a clown sometimes & you can't base too much just off his lone opinion. And Outkast was dope to me & many others in NY. I had the Players Ball single real time back then bumping that on my headset. I never liked Master P or Silk. They both were terrible & Master P put out a lot of garbage that helped water down hip hop

so you think its a good idea to throw a couple of nobodies out there to perform a dreary ass song on a nationally televised awards show??

to keep it a bean, most of the serious rappers down south back then, didn't have any jams. most of the jams came from booty music. that's one of the main reasons why the south didn't blow until the no limit soldiers came thru and provided both.

outkast wasn't as big as some of yall seem to think they were.I was surprised that they even won that award.

Word. In 1994-1995 Outkast did not have a hit song like 69 Boyz had.

They gained traction around Atliens-Aquemini in the hip-hop community, then the mainstream with Stankonia.

I love Outkast too btw.

That is misleading because it's two different groups. Kast didn't make that kind of music and it would be like comparing "Laffy Taffy" or "Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It" to one of T.I. or Jeezy's hits from that era. "Laffy Taffy" and "Lean Wiy It, Rock Wit It" have dances attached to them like "Tootsee Roll", that's built in crowd participation.
