I really appreciate this post. I sat and watched the whole thing again and it brought up so many memories! Bro them categories:wow::wow:

I’m still mad at how Salt N Pepa and them looked when Kast won that award. I mean they were supposed to win! I mean c’mon now... Ill & Al Skratch:mjlol: I liked Bone but I didn’t really get into them until after E. 1999 dropped which was around the time the source awards dropped. I liked their first album, but Kast holds a special place mostly because they repped the hometown. Loved Smif N Wessun but I wouldn’t have given it to them that year either lol... maybe them if Kast didn’t win. Man you definitely could sense the turn in hiphop in that show.. The energy felt weird through the tv I can’t imagine actually being there.

bone was clearly the hotter act by far.

theres no way outkast wasn't gonna get booed. that win was so left-field.

if you were gonna give an award to an out-of-towner, then you better give it to a heavyweight in the game. outkast were some middleweights and that's not an insult. just saying, they had no business touching the stage that night unless it was to present an award.

then they walked on the stage with those arrested development/PM Dawn vibes. man that chit was suicide. they can rewrite history and pretend that it was all because they were from the south all they want.

Oukast was on Martin :dahell: earlier in the year.

Everybody watched Martin, and this song was on Rap City all the time.

and they followed it up with another hit.

That Kast hate runs deep. Who are you saying they had no business touching the stage? Now I see why you stay mad at them. They won an award you don't think they deserved 20+ years ago and have continued to rack up accolades since and it burns you to the core because there's nothing you can do about it except anonymously downplay their legacy behind a keyboard on messagebaords. Now that's a harsh reality if there ever was one.

Honestly I just think anybody not named Smif N Wessun was getting booed that night:yeshrug: Bone probably would’ve got it until they gave props to Easy.. Ill & Al Skratch? I don’t know if they would’ve even cared if they won.

what the hell is that supposed to mean??:mjlol:

and they weren't even the featured cameo on that episode. the main attraction was Coolio. nobody even remembers outkast being on there but yall.

and yea, they had hits. but they were middleweight joints. you left out the best video from that album, btw.

the crowd aint care about eazy like that. bone had their own hits.

if bone won, you'd hear some boos but theyre not getting booed off the stage like outkast.

outkast also would be sitting ducks if they tried to perform a medley.

that's not even a diss. nor am I faulting them for the circumstances. im just saying they were in way over their head.

and nah, I didn't even watch this show back in the day. I didn't even know they were at the show or won anything until the DVD clips came out a decade later. nobody really talked about them being on the show like that until Viacom began forcing the issue 15 years later. and i actually liked outkast a lil bit back then. so you wasted your time typing up that theory.

what I don't like is how they try to mold the narrative to their favor, and the revisionist history that comes with it - which is always my issue with outkast - REVISIONIST HISTORY.

History rewrite. The Martin episode was named after Kast's single "Player's Ball". They performed twice. Once during the show and the closing credits.

all the industry placement in the world means nothing when youre not the biggest rapper appearing on the show.

all you heard was "Coolio was on martin".

Nobody molds a narrative to their favor. What you hate about Kast is that:

1) They don't fit the mold you try to place them in

2) They get props and accolades that you personally feel should go to other artists. This is largely where you try to downplay them.

This is a group that went platinum or better with each album more successful than the previous one. Not only did they have commercial success, but they got props and respect from their peers as well and STILL do.

lol @ the bolded. what planet do you live on?

1.) what mold is that?? im lost.

2.) I don't downplay them. theyre a top 25-40 group. that's no chump chit. but yea, they are one of those groups that the industry tried to make bigger than they were, and it didnt stick. and now theyre forcing the issue in hindsight. I don't like that type of chit and im sure you know that stuff is always a pet-peeve of mines, regardless of who the artist is.

i didn't have to watch long. i cut it off when dude came out in the globetrotter outfit.

that was a huge song back then, and they made some money performing it i'm sure, but that wasn't the night for it. especially not that night. wasn't about no clown shyt that night. even ed lover and his boy looked stupid when the vid started.

that was a tough era. "94-96: When Steel Sharpened Steel" and i doubt there'll ever be another like it. that was suge at his peak, then he went to even another level when pac got out.

only ones from the Blessed South coulda handled that crowd that night was the Geto Boys who are respected all over the world. only camp that woulda shut it all down, if they so chose, was Rap-A-Lot.

truly a beautiful time.

New York was the gatekeepers, if you wanted exposure living in the south. Point Blank PERIOD.

And yeah, there was competition among new york artists and borough pride, but there were also a lot of callabos.

Mobb didn’t like Big
Nas & Big were funny
Joe didn’t like Jay
Def Squad didn’t like Mobb
Nas didn’t like Jay
Black Moon didn’t like Big
Jeru didn’t like Big
Lost Boyz stayed to themselves for the most part
Foxy didn’t like Kim
Nore didn’t like Tragedy
Mega didn’t like Nas

:russ: Where are you from?
