I grew up in VA. The only time dudes was really dancing like that was during the new jack swing era, and the Kane and Kid n Play shyt back in 88 until like 92.
And then you have go go up in DC, but again... dudes wasn't busting it open on the dance floor like women :mjpls:

The song was a hit. There's no denying it.

All I'm saying is at the time, that shouldn't have been a representation of the south and it's contributions to the rap game. To me it was a sign of disrespect. They were basically saying. Look ya'll. Look at these country ass nikkas on stage twerking. That's the south. They're not on our level. A joke.

The south should've had their won showcase.

Imagine if Ball & MGJ performed this song on stage

problem was none of the groups in the South then had really made any noise in NY. UGK wouldn't have got much of a reception that night cause they still weren't really fukkin with shyt like that up in NY back then. outkast was still new, goodie mob hadn't really made an impact yet.

they shoulda done a Rap-A-Lot showcase and had the Geto Boys perform like I said, cause they had the respect of everyone in that crowd, even back then.

the geto boys weren't even together at the time.

and big mike got booed. I think scarface caught some boos as well. nobody up top was afraid of rap-a-lot.

but yea, a lot of people from that era did indeed come up on scarface on the east coast. he could've performed. the crowd would've been dead tho. diary was a classic but it wasn't jammin.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Mobb didn’t like Big
Nas & Big were funny
Joe didn’t like Jay
Def Squad didn’t like Mobb
Nas didn’t like Jay
Black Moon didn’t like Big
Jeru didn’t like Big
Lost Boyz stayed to themselves for the most part
Foxy didn’t like Kim
Nore didn’t like Tragedy
Mega didn’t like Nas

:russ: Where are you from?

Circa 91 - 96 there were a ton of callabos. Record labels cross promoted their artists. Same with producers.
You fail to include that. And like I said, there was competition, but that was always the case.

it wasn't unified tho. I don't know why people keep thinking that it was.

the difference between the '90s and '00s is that when the '00s rolled around, the rap game was different and there was way more politics behind the scenes. rappers were pulling strings to get keep the competition down. dudes getting blackballed, albums shelved, etc. the rich stayed richer and the torch was never passed. that's what really killed the east coast.

there were politics in the '90s too, but not many major occurrences. by 2000s standards, illmatic would've been a mixtape. dudes like Raekwon & ghostface would've got blackballed, etc.

this thread is funny.

people suggesting that all these southern acts who have posthumous internet followings 20 years after the fact, should've been performing at an awards show.

southern rap wasn't a thing until a few years later, and most of these dudes were never stars. UGK? 8ball & MJG?? '95% of rap-a-lot records. LOL.

this post is not a diss. just saying some of yall get too caught up in whats getting props on the rap forums, and lose touch with what actually happened.

outkast wasn't as big as some of yall seem to think they were.I was surprised that they even won that award.

its the 69 boyz that performed. 95 south was a different group.
"tootsee roll" was a cultural phenomenon. I guess you had to be there.

and their performance was dope.
sure it looks gay now, but dudes used to bust moves like that back in the day. not so much by 1995, but the south is always a few years behind the ball so it was whatever.
smh you been at this for goddamn 20 years :snoop:

Truth is R.A.P. was regional back then, growing up in the south, I didn’t listen to no NY artist or really fukk with y’all media, BET was trying to force East Coast songs on us 24/7 we had our own shyt in the south and I’m not talking dance music just real rap Hell we fukked with the West more, at least they had music you could ride to. The game was different back then and if you wanted to get national exposure you had to be accepted by NY, Hell Face didn’t get love till the Diary but the World is Yours was just as much a classic. the south made their own lane.

lol @ the bolded. what planet do you live on?

1.) what mold is that?? im lost.

2.) I don't downplay them. theyre a top 25-40 group. that's no chump chit. but yea, they are one of those groups that the industry tried to make bigger than they were, and it didnt stick. and now theyre forcing the issue in hindsight. I don't like that type of chit and im sure you know that stuff is always a pet-peeve of mines, regardless of who the artist is.

I live on Earth, which apparently is a foreign to you.

1) Breh, you stay trying to lump OutKast in with Arrested Development and PM Dawn. What's crazy is you're saying Andre's clothes gave off Arrested Development and PM Dawn vibes. That's surface level BS. The type of conclusions outsiders draw when they have no idea what they are talking about, but use irrelevant reference points to give off the illusion that they do.

2. You do a great deal of downplaying like you're doing now. There's not any other group in Hip Hop you could legit say:

- every album including the Greatest Hits went platinum. Each album excluding Idlewild sold more than the last

- they produced a lot of their own music and some of their biggest hits were self produced

- they put out five albums in a span of 9 years and the fifth album was their biggest
