It was the commercial programing of a specific genre of music. Prior to media deciding to control the output of information, hip hop had a balance.

Neither. Problem is that people think that mainstream music is the only music that was/is out when in fact it was much much more out there to discover and enjoy.

Also, the times have changed, so the music will also change as the newer generation emerges an take over.

I don't expect a Gen X person to feel Gen Z music and vice versa.

I gave up complaining about music now because it wasn't made for me to like. It's youngsta music. There are other genres for me to explore and enjoy plus there is a massive archive of artists, groups, DJs, etc. to dig up & rediscover. It's just that the masses don't know about it which is on them. Should have been "diggin' in the crates"!!! *shrugs"
