Why do people keep mentioning Bush? Most of his criticisms were based on his actions (lying, on screen buffonery, vacationing the majority of time, etc). Obama's been taking bullets before he was even elected.

Bush was a way more hated President than Obama.

Maybe it's because I live in the Northeast but I never hear people talk bad about Obama.

White people love Obama so much they gave him a second term in a country where the black population is only 14%.

I agree....people who are probably too young or didn't care at the time...forget that Bush was very hated, well within his first 4 years... and during his last 4? Psssshhhh....that man was called the anti-Christ- "retard", a monkey etc etc ...anyone recall Fahrenheit 9/11??
The Democrats from back around 2000, still probably believe to this day that Bush "stole" the election.

I think this staunch extremist, partisan party politics began with him. Prior to that, a Dem and Repub was a Dem and Repub, but I don't remember any flat out hatred during the Clinton, G. HW. B or Reagan years. And when I say hatred, I'm referring to this incessant name calling, and voters on the opposite end disagreeing with EVERYTHING that they had to say for the sake of maintaining their position on very specific extreme talking points.

I think hyper extremism was heightened by the internet and the exposure to independent forms of media to the average Joe or Jane didn't have in the previous years. I think alot of these extreme views were highlighted and became meme talking points where before they would have just been tossed away in the loony bin.

But prior to that, regardless of where you stood...for the most part there were always things that you could agree with both parties, now it doesn't seem that way.

Making fun of presidents on late night TV is not the same

as screaming YOU LIE has the president is addressing the house

And Democrats never questioned Bush's credentials/qualifications (:skip:) or tried to say that he wasn't an American or didn't care about this country.

You guys put too much on the president. I'm not saying Bush was a good president, but to solely put the blame on the figurehead is ridiculous. An extreme overreaction by the left or the right at any given time.
Agreed, in hindsight, I don't think he was that bad or really bad at all. I use to go with the left wing talking points of just how "terrible" he was until I began to see the fallacy in their arguments as I stepped away from the party itself

If you really want to know what was swirling around in his head during those times, I'd advise picking up his book "Decision Points" if you haven't already. I gained a lot of sympathy and respect for him after reading that. A lot of what he did back then, made a lot of sense.
