What about racism. Did you experience it?? Did you see it happening?? I mean if is the most racist country in the world im sure you saw some things. Give us the tea ( pause)
I didn't experience any overt racism that I would compare to what we consider racism is in the US. Maybe there were some subtleties I couldn't pick up on, but I think the racist country title is more internal (Indian to Indian). We did get asked for pictures often, which was weird because some of the people asking for pics are darker than me and my wife. Once I started saying "100 rupees for a picture", people backed off
The caste system still affects the day-to-day in normal Indian life. Darker skin Indians were more likely to be bathroom attendants, the person zip-tying your bookbag at the grocery store or directing traffic. And that's only what I saw living in the 4th most populous city, I'm sure it's worse in smaller cities
What we (my wife in particular) experienced was sexism tho. Her job was the one that brought us to India but all of the admiration and respect was directed to me even when we would tell people where she worked and whatnot.
