UCLA Football has always taken a backseat to Basketball, to the point where a cat like Josiah Johnson has stories about how even someone like him had elevated status in LA at the time.

West Coast talent is so much weaker also. So it's hard for those schools to get back on top, well primary USC. UCLA ain't never been no football Mecca.

Plus the west coast is more pro sports oriented as the college football culture overall in general is not as big as the south and midwest. But there's no shortage on football talent in California. The SEC, Big Ten, and Big 12 recruits the west coast heavy.

If you're measuring achievement solely by that, maybe.... But when it comes to putting their players in the NBA, only Duke and Kentucky currently have more in the NBA.
