U$C is the type of school where if a good coach can get them back to playoff contender status...borderline.....the money would come POURING in. West Coast needs proof of concept before they invest. Southern and Midwestern schools drop money to make the dreams happen.

Now UCLA is a whole other issue. Kinda like Stanford where the $$$$$ is there, but they're not spending it on football. This is the same school where the old Chiefs LB (think it was Donnie Edwards) played at UCLA and said he was struggling to get by and didn't always have food to eat. Edwards was an All-American and got a few All-Pro nods in the NFL. If a dude of his caliber ain't getting a bag.....no one is getting a bag..and this was in the early/mid 90s.

same for pete carroll's run. they did it by bringing in the best recruits, delivering with those recruits and getting them to the NFL. if you aren't getting paid legally you might as well go play for the best coaches that will get you to the league where you can get paid.

Exactly. The same teams now spending crazy was spending then. Saban built 2 programs for modern football and recruiting. LSU and Bama. I remember what Bama was before he got there.

If Nick Saban was in his 50s or even 60s, he would be killin these ninjas.

His last game was ruined cuz Milroe is a doofus that made horrible decisions and then fumbled. Then his starting center was a terrorist. They gave Michigan a Natty.

Julian Sayin was at Bama along with the number 1 or 2 recruiting class in the nation when he retired

UCLA Football has always taken a backseat to Basketball, to the point where a cat like Josiah Johnson has stories about how even someone like him had elevated status in LA at the time.

West Coast talent is so much weaker also. So it's hard for those schools to get back on top, well primary USC. UCLA ain't never been no football Mecca.
