I was just thinking. I think it's been said that the PS4 controller will work with the PS5. The dualshock 4 is already awesome, they don't really need a new standard controller. And there's like 120 million people that already have one.

So what if the new joint is more of an elite style controller. They could potentially have a PS5 sku that doesn't come with a controller for like $100 less.

I would cop the one with the new controller but I'm sure there's plenty of people that would be happy to cop cheaper and use their dualshock 4.

Could also have to do with why they released that back button attachment so late in the PS4's life.

Controller isnt the problem. Total cost to make that thing is 25$. The problem is new technology that cant scale due resources.

Thats like saying we can bring down the cost of a iphone a $100 by not including the usb cable.

I was thinking if the new joint is an elite type that would cost 100 or more retail. But I see what you're saying about the cost to make it.

I’m just not particularly concerned about price this gen. I mean, this isn’t like 14 years ago when the ps3 dropped at a ridiculous-for-the-time $600. With the tech that both MS and Sony are packing into these systems...it would be absurd to think that they will price in the $400-$500 range.
As folks have mentioned...cell phones which folks hold on to for less time are going for more than twice that amount.

I dont want Sony or MS to compromise their console performance and features for the sake of trying to hit a pretty price point.
If we’re being 100, there’s no reason why both machines couldn’t launch at $599

And honestly most of the comments from articles across the web on this subject have folks saying the same thing: we expect this to be more expensive than the previous gen...and we’re OK with that.
I think $500-$600 is a realistic expectation.

I agree I'd rather have something more expensive if it meant better performance. I think there's alot of the more casual type audience that don't feel that way though. :yeshrug:

This is true, $600 is around what rent was at my first apartment when the ps3 dropped. They were essentially asking for a full months rent for a ps3 which was ridiculous at the time.

$600 in 2020 actually isnt that much money. Expect the series x to be $600 and the ps5 $500. I think Microsoft will also have a low end model for $400, which might be announced after sony reveals a lower price than the series x.

As for leaving out the controller, they've spent too much time hyping features that majority of consumers wont buy. If they release the dualshock 5 as an elite controller for $100+ dollars then people will just buy a DS4, which means developers wont be inclined to develop games with the new controller in mind.

Honestly if you're not able to spend atleast $500 next gen for a console, then maybe you need to focus on other aspects in your life outside of gaming. This entire gen nikkas were complaining about how weak the consoles were, and now that sony and Microsoft are making the new consoles alot more powerful, nikkas want cheaper weak consoles.

Console gonna be expensive af for a min.

People say yeah but iPhones cost alot

They pay it off most of the time. Not all at once.

Tbh you shouldnt buy a new console for at least a year or two.

Not only because the price will decrease a little, but because there wont be any games that are worth it for at least a couple years into the gen

Our expectation of gaming performance and quality necessitates a higher price point. $500 or higher console is not unreasonable considering the vast majority of gamers are adults.

I always wait a year after release of a new console before purchasing it so I am good. The only console I got on launch was the N64.

IDK.

You buy a $400 piece of hardware You expect it to work out of the box.

Sure us “enthusiasts” probably have a bunch of controllers, and we would know if the new system has a controller or not, but the masses won’t.

Imagine lil timmy gets a PS5 for Christmas and there’s no controller in the box. That’s fukked up.

They can find other ways to reduce cost, but a controller needs to be in the box.

There is absolutely ZERO reason for Sony to try and cut corners with the PS5

A launch is when all the enthusiast consumers ARE WILLING to pay top dollar for anything.
