Just like patois sounds best from Jamaicans, the same with AAVE. Itโ€™s not something you just โ€œlearnโ€ itโ€™s part of your everyday growing up. White people stay trying to break something down so they can copy and exploit it.

what is the source of the seeming angst that the treatment of AAVE as a language seems to cause?

Saw a snap earlier today of some Asian girl using the phrase mean mugging :snoop:

They stealing our culture right up from under us!

Skimmed through the video and itโ€™s actually pretty good. He has a brother saying the phrases and words as well.

Above the fray.
strange outlook, IMO
Black linguists have lectures up on the same platform.
John McWhorter is a dikkhead on most other issues, but he is a linguist and a staunch proponent of AAVE being respected and studied.

People are saying that whoever this white guy is, he might not best person to be the introduction to the topic .
