About to buy a car-no knowledge of cars

,I'm 26 and I have about 13k to spend on a car. I know I know (NY jokes) taking so long to never have cars but I'm taking the first steps. The quotes I've been given for insurance are outrageous so I'm going to either be insured in like Pennsylvania or Georgia.



My family suggests I buy from a police auction but I've been looking through online and the cars look like horeshi*. Should I just buy a car in PA/GA instead of the auctions here?





What brand and model for my budget? I was also advised to buy it all one time and it's best to have a car with little mileage.



Cars are so expensive I don't know if I'll be able to cop something really crazy but I do want a ho stopper

2000 white Lexus LS400 for sale on Craiglist for $5,900- 10713 on the odometer, owner said the car never gave him problems.

"Over the years it didn’t give me a single problem. But I got newer car, and I have to let it go. Recently replaced tires and brakes. No accidents, clean leather interior, no warning lights, no issues at all, runs great. I have clean title in hands. If you have questions call me or text me"

LS400s are reliable and can last a million miles. It is a V8 tho, and idk how NY traffic is. I wanted one (same generation as the 2000) but can’t find any for the right price I’d weld the diff and vip style it

too old...they're going to give you problems....Go for a 13 or 14. I just bought a Bmw 328i 2015 for $14k a few weeks ago in NJ.

Let me speak from experience. Never and I mean never purchase a preowned BMW. In particular one that is out of warranty. They will all present issue down the road. On the other hand, the 1998-2000 Lexus Ls400 has been widely recognized most reliable luxury car ever produced. They routinely go 300-500k with only timing belt/ water pump and fluid changes. Only weak spot is the starter. Usually every 200k miles for that.
If I were you I would stick to Toytoa, Honda or Hyundai for a first vehicle purchase. Almost all cars in their line ups are very reliable.

How does your credit look? If you got $13k to spend cool.. what type of car you looking for? Best case check out www.carmax.com www.vroom.com or www.carvana.com

You can find a nice used car in your price range and not have to spend all your saved up money.. or you can take a loan on the car and pay it off a month or two later to build your credit..

I know if it was me I'm not buying a 20-21 year old car. That car is almost as old as you. When I was in your position I bought a certified pre-owned 2016 Honda Civic EX-T in 2019. Put $10,000 down and financed the rest for 5 years. The payments are $162 a month. Test drove the car and took it to my car people and they gave me the ok. In Oct of this year it will have been a year and other than gas and a tire rotation I haven't had to spend a dime on it. Dealer is trying to get me to trade it in for a 2020 model now.

I actually would do that if they gave me what I paid for it but I doubt they do that.

How you finding it breh I'm bouncing between getting a 2017 used 3 or 5 series. Leaning more towards the 5 as shyt seems a little more refined to me

Get 2 whips. Get a used Toyota Sienna. RELIABLE!! You can sleep and have sex in it comfortably. Move big items, furniture, etc. And its very low key. 5k for a 2008 or so.

2nd whip, used Acura. For dates and to pull up nice.

I have a new Maxima and a bike, but my van is the workhorse and aircraft carrier of my battle group.
