The island ricans diff from usa ricans.

The ones in i ran into have always said they had black in them or wasnt afriad to embrace they blackness.

But i kno the island isnt 85 percent black so the numbers seem off.

Cuban and central Americans embrace they blackness too
Yaaay

Don't you need to trace your exact lineage to whatever family or tribe you come from.

Cacs called us black because they didn't give a shyt about where we came from. Acknowledging African ancestry is easy. Knowing who you represent as it concerns your bloodline is different.

They're gonna need dna tests

Some with many PRs its obvious they have black ancestry and they won't need a test.

Just calling yourself black isnt enough. Black is a color and not all of the various nationalities and cultures among black people are the same.

You say you're black outside of America and people ask but yes where are your people from.

It's good information to know

The reason people don't embrace their black ancestry is because they have an inferiority complex. Stop telling people they should be proud to be black. Instead show them why blackness is great. Educate the youth on the truth and we won't have this problem. The reason black people don't want to be black is because white supremacy teaches us to hate ourselves from the day we are born.

I grew up not really wanting to be black because everything in American society said being black was bad and that white was better. It wasn't until I became conscious and learned the truth of our history that I became pro black. When I learned that black people created everything from religion to civilization to science I was freed from the brainwashing of white supremacy and nobody needed to tell me to be proud to be black. I just was.

At the beginning of mean streets
Something shifted from when you had activists (like Pedro Albizu Campos whos father was from Spain) proud of their African heritage to now. The majority don’t want to be labeled black. Hell they used to call my mother morena and me morenita. I took it as being a nice way of saying you’re dark but not black. :mindblown: However the ones I grew up with, dated, and was neighbors with stated they had black heritage. But I know that’s not true for the majority. They be sayin dumb shyt like I’m not black I’m Spanish. It doesn’t help when they’re being told they can’t be black because they’re Latino either.

I don't think it's that simple in places like PR and the DR. Whiteness or being "spanish" is associated with a higher status socially and economically so people feel there are tangible benefits to denying blackness.

I think being hispanic or latino has added a layer to confusion with the black latinos who deny their Afro-heritage as colonizers, Africans and indigenous people did intermix and those areas did not have a rigid racial distinction line like the United States had with the "one-drop rule". American crakkkers protected whiteness and wanted people to have no illusions of being accepted if they had black/african heritage.

The ones who look like j lo and rosie perez evelyn lozado and Erica mena would try to say they got black in them but u kno it was not direct.

Then u got the ones that got that tahiry look (even tho she dominican some ricans look like her) those are the more mullato looking ones they seem to rep they blackness here in usa but on the island they dont why the black numbers are low there.

Than u got Roberto Clemente and tito trinidad and lala who afro ricans obviously.

U notice in cuba and central america the black numbers tend to be higher because they rep they blackness harder there.

But the numbers on the island are not true its alot not identifying as black
