The Burglary That Exposed COINTELPRO: Activists Mark 50th Anniversary of Daring FBI Break-in
Fifty years ago, on March 8, 1971, a group of eight activists staged one of the most stunning acts of defiance of the Vietnam War era when they broke into an FBI office in Media, Pennsylvania, and stole every document they found. The activists, calling themselves the Citizens’ Commission to Investigate the FBI, began leaking shocking details about FBI abuses to the media. The documents exposed COINTELPRO, the FBI’s secret Counterintelligence Program, a global, clandestine, unconstitutional practice of surveillance, infiltration and disruption of groups engaged in protest, dissent and social change. Targets included Martin Luther King Jr., the Black Panthers, the American Indian Movement, the Young Lords, antiwar groups, Black booksellers and other organizations. The leaked documents triggered congressional investigations, increased oversight and the eventual passage of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. The FBI never knew who was involved in the break-in until 2014, when several of the burglars made their identity public to coincide with the publication of a book about the break-in. To mark the 50th anniversary, we speak with Bonnie Raines, one of the activists involved in the heist, as well as Paul Coates, the founder and director of Black Classic Press and BCP Digital Printing, who was a target of FBI surveillance as part of COINTELPRO.

Some of The most monitored people were Malcolm x and Elijah Muhammad... but in these articles they are never mentioned.

It's in the system's best interest that Black people be uninformed or misinformed. Keeps us from making informed decisions.

If there's one group of people on earth who need to be alert and informed, it's Black men. That's why I can never get with people promoting ignorance or disinformation. That's shucking and jiving, to me.

And I bet you it's someone in this thread talking like they arent the feds or an informant when they are. I dont trust yall.
The internet has made informants and agents less necessary.People reveal every detail of their lives on social media.
Also law enforcement targets either criminals or those pose a threat to the system. Dudes posting smilies here don't fall into any of those categories

@SunZoo
@Cloutius Maximus

Think this was a more appropriate thread to continue the discussion.

you don't have to be actively planning revolution to end up on the govt's radar

the cac is inherently neurotic and wants to know how we are thinking and moving

Large groups of *black people gathering/communicating is always going to be a threat or of interest to all of the groups pointed up.

As @Cloutius Maximus said, you don't need to be actively planning revolution to be on the governments radar, especially with the tech they have. People used to be shocked at random celebrities being targeted and having a "file". It's getting to the point with Peter Thiel and his ilk that average people are going to have one as well let alone a site like this where there has been:

- Massive threads on the genocide in gaza
- Massive threads about protests, police brutality, mass shootings. I remember actually being warned to chill on speaking about Michah when he did what he did.

Isreal's representatives have said out loud that black people, particularly young black people are one of their biggest obstacles in the U.S. I've seen cacs hilariously refer to this as being "The black st0rmfr0nt". If you're an OG poster, especially if you go back several generations/forums with the same core of people it might be hard to image it could be that serious.

But the notion that agent provocateurs are being sent here or that there is some degree of monitoring going on isn't far fetched in this day and age.

To answer the question I posed, this forum is between 1-2 out of 10 in terms of posing a threat to any of the entities that you listed as possibly monitoring here.

And that's because a sizable % of members have demonstrated that they are naive , gullible, and susceptible to propaganda
The threads of them hearing, believing, and repeating unsubstantiated misguided comments and takes are still up.

Adults that easy to manipulate can be radicalized and possibly pose physical danger to others .[ Or be neutralized by the same simplified level of propaganda that they naturally gravitate to ]

But in terms of challenging the status quo, legal system, or the social order in any organized way, the number/threat level would be low. In general, this is NOT a serious place, and we all know it. So does whoever might or might not be monitoring open internet forums in 2025.

I think it's very clear that the US government did everything in its power to pacify or destroy radical black rights groups to avoid the scenario we see in Palestine, where the Israeli government regularly kills or imprisons them with impunity and rapidly turns itself into a pariah state.

20+ million black people incarcerated. That's a worse case scenario based on black people operating like Palestinians: consistent violence aimed at the state.
