adidas Originals x Jeremy Scott have collaborated on a number of different models and designs over the years. The styling of their joint efforts are usually highly eccentric as JS has a unique way of expressing his designer's touch. But one particular design has come across as controversial because of its handcuff-like feature.

The nickname to this adidas Originals model is the "Handcuff", two of which are seen in yellow on both sneakers. To some it may be a sick design but to others, it comes off as offensive, almost referring to times of slavery. One Facebook user says “I daresay that marketing & selling a shoe with a ‘chain & shackle’ accessory is a very bad idea. The ‘chain & shackle’ image has a bad connotation, that of slavery, in the African American community. I think it’s inappropriate. The idea of being chained to Adidas or any object is repulsive.”

Do you feel the same way about the adidas "Handcuff" and will you be copping the shoe when it drops in August for $350? Let us know.

I think this was some marketing gimmick.

Watch them come out with an oh-so convenient, pc alternative.

So demonic :snoop:

They are terrible

But owning a pair and holding on to them for the long run would probably get you some cash.

I can't believe nikkas upset about this tho. I could see if it was blatant like Aunt Jemima syrup but shackles been in effect before Africans were even slaves.

1.) The shoes are ugly....

2.) I'm getting tired of us complaining about something every time it "might" remind us of slavery. Who cares if adidas makes these ugly shoes. They aren't distributing them exclusively at HBCU's. I don't think the designers are racist. So what's the big deal? If you feels some type of way then don't wear them, or don't allow your child to wear them and KIM.

In my opinion we shouldn't have a problem with something unless it seems obviously racist/prejudice. Otherwise we need to stop being so sensitive and presumptive. Also, In my opinion, it shows how weak people are that they let every little thing affect them so much to the point they have to protest it.

Who are they hurting by releasing those shoes?

the mentality of our young black youth? :childplease:

How bout you teach your children how to respect themselves and others and all this crap won't matter.

I dont call my brehs c00ns but u just said some of dumbest shyt ive ever heard. R u serious? So you think these shoes will not be at the mall at "urban" stores and be bought by all who support urb- naw, black culture? Come on man its disrespect and a spit in the face to us. We helped boost their sales and make them a cool staple among hiphop fashion with DMC and now they offer shoes with orange shackles resemblant of the county jumpsuit. Im boycotting.
