I dont call my brehs c00ns but u just said some of dumbest shyt ive ever heard. R u serious? So you think these shoes will not be at the mall at "urban" stores and be bought by all who support urb- naw, black culture? Come on man its disrespect and a spit in the face to us. We helped boost their sales and make them a cool staple among hiphop fashion with DMC and now they offer shoes with orange shackles resemblant of the county jumpsuit. Im boycotting.
First of all... what makes these shoes a part of black culture? You had it right the first time. It's urban culture, not black culture. Not all blacks are from urban areas and embrace the urban culture. And not everyone living the urban lifestyle/culture is black. That's the first problem. We're so quick to say this and that is BLACK culture when that's not the truth. Adidas, kangols, and gold ropes are a part of urban culture.
The civil rights movement and negro spirituals are a part of black culture. There's a difference.
Honestly... I don't even wear adidas shoes. Never even owned a pair.
Second... How does that disrespect me at all? More than black slaves wore shackles. Hell, they still put prisoners in shackles today, and all prisoners aren't black (though the difference in ratio is staggering). Honestly, I would be more inclined to dislike the shoes (on a social level) because they promote the so called "thug" mentality, and people thinking it's cool to be the equivalent of a prisoner.
At the end of the day we have freedom of choice.... If you don't like them, just don't support them and they will disappear. Why do we feel the need to make a spectacle out officer everything that is "maybe, almost, kinda racist."
-If the shoe had a monkey on the side... ok, protest.
-If they showed some marketing campaign focusing overwhelmingly on black youth... ok, protest
-If the designer is known for making racist remarks... ok, protest
-If the shoe is called slave-max... ok, protest
But if there is no real basis that this design exudes racism then we need to chill out. Your telling me that this is racist because black slaves wore shackles?
Guess what... black slaves wore chains. Do you have a problem with people walking around with chains around their necks?
Is it in poor taste.... probably
But does it offend me?.... absolutely not. I'm not a slave or a prisoner, and I don't plan on becoming either one of them.
So denying that urban cultures main contributor of ideas is blacks and that it is marketed to blacks in general with other races picking it up only after we cosign this.
These shoes will be worn by young black teenagers who dont even recognize the historical and present aspects of wearing that filth. When you forget the past, it is bound to repeat.
Gold chains, i feel you, but let us not forget that gold is a symbol of wealth and that africa is filled with it
