i legit knew an african nurse a man named adolf and he was a tall african man i never asked what country.
I used to have a roommate, an African cat named Adolf (I think he spelled it differently though), back when I was going to basketball camps in high school.

European History isn't African History

In the West, we're taught of the atrociousities of Hitler and the Nazi therefore we're aware his name has such a negative and impactful connotation

To many Africans Hitler was just one of many bad people who Europeans and Americans just happened to hate.

Trevor Noah explains this in his Autobiography when one of his South African friend was called Hitler and how they performed at a Jewish school for a dance competition, not aware that this would have them Jews shook and upset. He was naive because he didn't know

Pretty much..

who the hell is Hitler to you when the germans, brits, americans, are fukking you over. dude is just another white

There's no way I can about learn this and not say anything. This is why I belabor the point about how names and languages are just an extension of power. Here you have an African man whose country was once a former colony and whose father named his child after the same people that just recently committed genocide against. Mine you he was born in '66—11 years after WW2. I would say something scathing and visceral but I'm going to end up sounding like a c00n or a suspected white supremacist. I will say this: there is power in self-definition.
