So….I walk out of my apartment and there’s this dude chilling in the stairwell. Looks very young. Like right outta high school. Lil guy hasn’t been bothering anybody. Very kind.
So I mind my business and keep it moving. But I noticed he’s been there for a week. That’s potentially dangerous for him and me so I went to one of the blk male managers at my apartment complex to see if they would come with me to talk to him.
Dude graduated from high school, and was adopted. He was living with his grandmother but she recently died and so he lost everything and was put out. So he’s been chilling in the stairwell charging his phone by day and sleeping in the woods by night. He is in the middle of applying for his ID and documents like social security card b/c his grandmother took care of that. He’s 23, studying to take the ASVAB to join the military. He’s drug free and willing to take a drug test and background check. Has no record.
Short-term goals:
1.Clothing-he needs shirts and pants and shoes.
2. Food- He needs food.
3. Shelter- he’s been to the men’s shelter but they are full, so I’m trying to put him in an extended stay hotel close to whatever job we can find for him.
4.Job-documentation, ID.

I will update this thread with pictures if I get his permission.
Otherwise, if anybody wants to throw in a couple of dollars to help, I will save receipts and post pictures of receipts and updates so you know this ain’t an Umar situation.
Any help is appreciated. I just don’t wanna see a young blk man get killed by cops trying to escort him off the premises and it’s too hot to be on the pavement in July. I’ll do what I can but I can’t do it all by myself.
