The harriet movie made 12 million

Out of that 12 mill, 50% was black=6million

The average movie ticket Is 10 dollars
Divided by 6 million=
Only 600,000k blacks/ados saw harriet out of 35 million blacks/asos in the USA

That's at a 0.017% of ADOS saw the movie, that's 9 points above the legal drinking limit.:russ:

We did it fam...:salute:

How do you know 50% of attendees were black? Sounds like a lot of assumptions OP

.017%, I’m not seeing this movie but damn you got some horrible math

How was the math off..:jbhmm:

Grace always has the breakdown at the end of the weekend

how was the math off?

well if there are 35 million of one thing

1% of that is 350,000

if 600,000 people saw that movie, the percentage is nearly 2% not .017%

That’s JUST for starters :manny:

The math is off because you are assuming information that has not been provided (nobody fills out racial info when going to the movies), therefore everything else is flawed. Not to mention you have no way to discern what ethnicities the black people that did see it are of.

In short, the logic is flawed. I don’t have to make up numbers for a shytty movie I don’t care about

It cost 17 million to make, with promotion probably 25 million total.

For a good comparison 12 years a slave opened at 29 million, more then doubling harriet's opening weekend

Do slave movies really make a lot tho besides 12 years? :manny:

Birth of a nation didn’t make a lot either thanks to that smear campaign.

Sounds like it did better than expected

Box Office: ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ Fizzles With $29 Million Debut

Fellow new release, Focus Features’ “Harriet,” had a far more promising start at the domestic box office, arriving at No. 4 with $12 million from 2,059 venues, ahead of expectations. The film boasts a rare A+ Cinemascore from audiences, signaling the historical drama could continue to benefit from positive word of mouth. Older female moviegoers drove inaugural sales: 62% were women and 59% were over the age of 35. African Americans accounted for nearly 50% of ticket buyers.

"Harriet” carries a $17 million production budget, which should help it pave a clear path toward profitability. Adding to the plaudits for Focus Features, it’s the first specialty studio in 15 years with two back-to-back films that debuted above $10 million. In September, the company released “Downton Abbey,” which launched with a better-than-expected $31 million and has since earned $94.5 million at the domestic box office.
