When I win I bring we with me
:ehh:
Ethiopia's Prime Minister Proposes the Creation of an African Union Continental Media House to Fight Western Media.

TIMESTAMPED FOR CONVIENIANCE

:jbhmm:
I wonder if a general targeted fund would work best. There are already independent media large and small doing great work. Be it something huge like Africa.com, smaller like the Wode Maya YouTube channel, or sprawling like the Nigerian movie production industry.
(If the AU made this from scratch they would have to worry about funding & logistics also.)

These established entities already proved they have a funding/sustaining mechanism.
All the AU would then need to do is...
  • Create a body to verify those independent media house's funding sources aren't compromising the production.
  • Push funds to these cleared media houses for...
  1. upgrades & maintenance
  2. one time grants for specific projects like movies, documentaries, etc)
  3. Infrastructure grants targeting distribution of media

SIDENOTE::blessed:
Shout out to Wode Maya, buddy is doing the lords work. He covers things folks hardly ever see. I personally love the factory tours, business highlights, and interviews.

African leaders don't respect media privilege and often punish real journalists for exposing corruption. If the leaders want to fight anti with pro propaganda they also have to be willing to sign laws that protect journalistic reporting. Otherwise we will just have an African union version of the government controlled media entities that already exist.

Above the fray.
Agree with Amestafuu (Emeritus) here. Free press can only work in a long term politically stable environment. Otherwise it will be co-opted by the ruling party to discourage criticism of their policies or decisions.

They should start a sovereign wealth fund that every country kicks into that invests globally and proceeds help fund the media house. No cacs should be permitted for any reason.:yeshrug:

If you want to do it you don't announce it to the world, just do it. There's already a blueprint look at Russia and China how they fund media entities to push their propaganda.

Not sure that's one in the same, I think the purpose here is just Africa's image in regards to general society and quality of life, not so much politics but I see your point.
