Trump has suspended all US refugee programmes and banned immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries, three of which are AU members

The head of the African Union has criticised Donald Trump’s ban on immigration from some Muslim-majority countries, saying it presents “one of the greatest challenges” for the continent.

As representatives of the AU’s 53 member states met in Addis Ababa for a two-day summit, the chief of its commission said the bloc was entering “very turbulent times” after the US President’s election.

“The very country to which many of our people were taken as slaves during the transatlantic slave trade has now decided to ban refugees from some of our countries,” said Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

“What do we do about this? Indeed, this is one of the greatest challenges to our unity and solidarity.”

Mr Trump’s executive order prevented people with passports from three African nations – Libya, Somalia and Sudan – from travelling to the US. It also blocked visas for citizens from four Middle Eastern countries – Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Iran.

The President has also suspended all US refugee programmes for 120 days, and ended the flow of Syrian refugees to America indefinitely.

Also speaking in Ethiopia, the UN Secretary General commended African countries for opening their borders to refugees and people fleeing violence while other parts of the world, including the developed West, close boundaries and build walls.

Antonio Guterres, attending his first AU summit as the UN chief, said: "African nations are among the world's largest and most generous hosts of refugees.

"African borders remain open for those in need of protection when so many borders are being closed, even in the most developed countries in the world."

Mr Guterres didn't make a direct reference to the recent executive orders signed by Mr Trump, which also included a commitment to build a wall along the Mexican border, but his comment drew enthusiastic applause from hundreds of African leaders, officials and dignitaries who attended the opening of the summit, the Associated Press reported.

:jbhmm:

So I just went back and watched a video where this chick jumped off script and start talking about how African Americans "don't give a shyt" about African Immigration issues :picard:

Time stamps
3 mins 0:37:12 - 0:40:00
1 mins 1:25:40 - 1:26:47
5 mins 1:31:08 - 1:36:44

I'm like, hey I don't have an issue with advocating for it:ehh: I simply don't know what the hell "it" is ....I.E. it's simply not on my radar:yeshrug:no more no less.

:jbhmm:
The closest thing to "immigration issues" I can think of was this Kenyan grad student I know from my graduate research lab. His wife was a dentist in Kenya and couldn't work in the U.S. so she had to get a secretary job while he was finishing his Computer Science PHD
(I think he said she had to take a bunch test or retake classes or something before she could practice here)

So "Africa coli", what exactly is the immigration issues for yall?

:snoop:
I already know somebody gone jump off script:francis:

The AU needs to put their money where their mouth is. Ghana, Tanzania and Senegal(to an extent) are the only ones who have. If they really felt this bad offer free visas to Diasporan blacks especially Diasporan blacks with degrees or business people to stimulate the economy. Win-win.

africans don't care about addressing the system of white supremacy.

they rather come here and reap the benefits we fought and died for, and then be nice and quiet for white mommy and daddy.

fukk em.

I'll bite :ehh::yeshrug:

Above the fray.
Not trying to ignore their point but ain't this the same African union that dismissed haiti's offer to join them?
BINGO!!!

I'm also gonna call BS on the attention grabbing statement by the head of AU. The enslaved Africans sent to the Americas were NOT from modern day Libya,Somalia or the Sudan (the banned countries) And it was Arabs under the banner of ISLAM who developed the slave trade in Africa that preceded the transatlantic one by CENTURIES( and which some say still exists).

Note that Senegal (also a Moslem country) and one of the regions where some in the diaspora are ACTUALLY from, is not on the banned list.

AU leader is playing the shell game.

He can MISS me with that.

im from new york city.

had alot of issues with africans.

ive smashed a few african chicks. alot of them scream about us not having a culture and no home training meanwhile they come here and slide right into the benefits/culture created by african americans.

from issa rae to luvvie (who literally said african americans dont need reparations) theres alot of self hatred and move making that isnt conducive to an empowered black diaspora, let alone empowered african americans or africans. they screaming about us fighting for their immigration but i dont see them fighting with us in the battle of white supremacy. its been african americans for years fighting, buidling, creating. they come here to go to black schools, absorb the culture, and then benefit off of it by having cacs point a mic in their face like they speak for all of us. they take up spots in colleges, jobs, and are nice and quiet when it comes to addressing cacs. they fight into that "model minority" stereotype and thats a problem for me. dont expect us to fight for anything (especially when you benefit off all our fights off the strength that you have black skin anyway)and you dont put nothin in on this struggle we been having for the past 500 years.

if i get a bag of some gas and you aint put in on it, you not smoking my shyt.

and they been smoking our shyt.

now this isnt all africans. most africans do not fall into this category.

i am specifically addressing the ones who come here that already have roots and europe and africa, and funding back home.

If they take up AA causes they risk deportation and worse... have some perspective. They have zero leverage
as immigrants. You think we are the only ones fighting with white supremacy ? :laff:
