Maybe I will have to watch the wire again because I didn't catch the similarities.

They're similar in that both shows fully immerse you in their universe. When u watch fnl u really feel like u're part of this small Texas town that lives and breathes football. The wire does the same thing except its a hood east coast city. I'd still give the wire the edge cuz it's more detailed but fnl is up there.
