It's not even the fact that you buy it online and they know who you are. but the fact that physical copies can be bought and shared anywhere even with homes with little kids playing it makes no sense but also no difference because even if you do an age verification there's no guarantee minors wont be playing it.

so they jumping through all these hoops for nothing. Also I gotta question it's a video game it's NOT REAL if the game is super adult in it's content put an Adults Only rating on it... and let's see what happens.
If they really want to put the nail in the coffin they should require 2 factor authentic before playing each game.
Either use a camera to scan the face/head of a player, for switch and PS5 put your finger on the little scanner/touchpad, and or use the mic and say your passphrase.
Ive said I think it's a part of the plan and not really a consequence of everything that happened.
Rental stores went out of business. After rental stores a lot of used game stores started dying. Then downloading/streaming games made it easy to play classics. There's stories of "companies" buying people's game collections, and companies buying "lots" (as in a lot- collection, en masse) of games, even buying the inventory from the rental and used game stores. Just to destroy them. They don't resell them or collect them.
I remember at the drop of a hat where I could go buy an snes or an N64 or a Gameboy, genesis, Dreamcast ..you name it. Now id have to call around.
Mfs are gonna be locked in, you will need internet access to at least access your games, not necessarily a subscription to play them. Like I turned on the Xbox the other day and I disconnected Xbox from the internet and I couldn't access a game I bought and downloaded. Which reminds me I should buy a disc of it if I can find one.....
