People like that are completely oblivious to the fact that there has been a complicit movement to remove black people from their creations, homogenize them for mainstream appeal, discredit the creators completely as an afterthought and void their opinions/criticisms as "complaints" and "whining" completely overwhelmed in emotion and void of any sort of logic or basis in facts or history.

Other than rap and hip-hop, I can think of so many genres of music where the creators are rarely mentioned and rarely referenced and others outside of it are making more from it than them. This is why I can't stand pitchfork and complex. White people who have no stake or personal relation to black culture other than making money off out it somehow being placed as the "authorities" on it just cause....

It's frustrating to no end. I put that link up there because the facebook convo is really telling. That guy Kirstin Azan was really dropping some knowledge on people and making them look terrible to the point they had to cancel the event. How are you going to have an African music showcase with NO African Djs? What kind of half-baked hipster nonsense is that? It's so unbelievably self-indulgent and ignorant it makes me tight just thinking about it!

and people here laugh at me when i say we need to STOP supporting professional sports. white people are making BILLIONS off of our black men, treating us like chattel from birth to the day of the draft, exploiting our physical talents until we're no longer useful, and making sure to prevent us from taking the millions we make and investing that back into the community. black people need to officially boycott professional sports. the professional sports industry, in its present state, is leeching off of our community.

but, but, poor black men aren't going to walk away from those millions

but, brother, it's just sports. don't take it so seriously

I just think sports and entertainment in general is just promoted way more than it should be amongst the black community as a means of "making it". Whereas things like going to college and getting into fields that are still largely unpopulated by black people like the sciences, engineering, the legal world, and in government aren't promoted as much. Those aren't guaranteed and there's really a small amount of people that can even make it in those fields. Rather than chasing degrees, making moves like opening businesses, and reinvesting wealth in the communities, they will spend their earnings largely towards their own selfish interests and don't invest it at all in the community.

That's not to negate or even downplay the accomplishments those have made in those fields...but now...those shouldn't be or only viable options to success when there's much more than can be done in this day and age. Entrepeneurship and education is really what needs to be promoted amongst black people en masse. The world is constantly changing and this new economy is going to eat people alive in the next couple of years if they aren't prepared.

do you see whites or asians or even latinos looking at professional sports or music as the only avenues to success? never. yet, black people act as if you can only make it if you have a jump shot or know how to rap. it makes us look so weak and impotent. and i look at these athletes who didn't receive any kind of substantial education. they're robots, programmed to run, jump, and throw a ball. and the owners write them a meaningless million dollar check, looking like :win:

i just don't respect black professional athletes anymore. i don't admire their talents. i don't envy their supposed "wealth." i look down upon them. they're slaves.

:whoa: You are trippin....The right athletes can do a lot for the black community...its just that most in it don't have knowledge of self to help the black community in the right way. With the amount of money they are making they can create a lot of jobs in the black community like Magic did. They can also pool together their money and start owning sports franchises. They need business guidance. We shouldn't discourage young black men from using their God given talent, whether its academic or sports related. What we should be doing is try and educate these athletes on why its important to build something for their people with all the money they made.

You hotep nikkas will come up with any reason not to do shyt :dead:

For those of you who actually want to know what Black people should be doing in general instead of rehashing old Youtube videos and Tariq podcast : http://www.thecoli.com/threads/black-diasporic-essentials-for-liberation.447717/
