I was having this conversation with a friend about whats missing in todays games

and it hit me that the ambiance and sound effects of current games just seem to lack weight....and furthermore the entries from back in the day put special attention to what we heard as we played :jbhmm:

can you think of a game that was a cult and/or commercial success without a decent musical score (not counting sports/FPS)

music and score really amps up a game whether you realize it or not.

Having music that goes with a scene and making you "feel" the mood is really key to making something "lit" :whew:.

A lot of what made MGS 3 so epic is when crazy shyt was when bombs were being dropped and crazy shyt was happening and suddenly you hear the first seconds of this.

FFXIII was mediocre gameplay but I enjoyed battle partially because this joint was so fire.

First time I even booted up XIII and heard this I thought I might actually be in for a FIRE ass journey.

AND LETS NOT ACT LIKE THIS WASN'T NO FIRE ROAMIN AROUND THE CITY :blessed:

I disagree. In intense gaming there is so much for me to focus on that there are times that I completely forget about the music. I.e. dark Souls 3.

Hanz Zimmer made Mass Effect 3 so good that it took a really bad ending to fukk it up\

I liked all of Witcher 3's music. Very atmospheric and brings you in

in a horror game, the absence of sound is what keeps the suspense going

the sounds in Until Dawn >>>>> 2016 lineup

Absolutely agree.

Tie-Fighter with the iMuse midi soundtrack was :blessed:.
When they remastered it with redbook audio (which technically sounded better because it was orchestrated) it ruined the game because it removed the immersive factor of the music.

Same with tv and film.

DBZ was great because of the Bruce Faulconer soundtrack. DBZ Kai was unwatchable imo because the music was fukking garbage.

Yeah It definitely plays a part. One of the worst soundtracks in recent memory was Xenoblade Chronicles X. The music would be mixed so poorly with the dialogue sometimes you couldn't even hear the dialogue because the bland uninspired music would drown it out. :francis:

In dark souls, the music was always secondary, except in boss fights. It was always, by intent, subdued and subtle for this very reason I think. They know the player is probably on edge and the music is not being focused on.
