I realized the average black mainstream lyrical fan would rate these 3 in this order in skill/talent ranking. But the rankings correlate to level of struggle. I realized while listening to my library on shuffle that I hadn't heard Kendrick in like 3 weeks. I realized that meant I most of skipped at least 5 times. I realized I'd gone from doing badly in life or last feeling that way to feeling alright, so I started playing more Cole. But anytime I got a small W, in life I'd play Drake in my mini turn up. I feel like the music correlates to mood/out look on life.
Discuss, I'm maaad high btw :smugfavre::blessed:

Now that you are sober you want to different ways are you talking about lyricism ranking the 3 or who you relate to more

What inspired the thread was Untitled 05 off of Untitled Unmastered, I was high so in a good mood listening to optimistic Cole songs, and bumping to the pop Drake bass and drums. Then 05 came on and I was like damn that fukked up my whole vibe. I realized I felt Kendrick more in moments were I felt trapped or on a treadmill, grinding just to get nowhere. Cole speaks to getting out but leaving people behind/remembering those you left. Drake is what I play when the W is so big I almost can't remember what I came from

I feel what you're saying to an extent. Drake definitely makes more celebratory music and does well capturing relatable mood like how nikka we made it turned into a graduation song.

Cole occasionally hits those lands, but i think he finds a solid middle ground in being more niche with his subject matter at times.

Kendrick has his moments but I definitely get his music being for certain moods and he doesn't have a nice list of shyt for you to really turn up to like his lablemates from Q to Isiah to even Rock at this point with a few of his cuts from the last album.

Though I will say Alright, DNA, backseat freestyle and Humble definitely hit me different when I'm in a certain mood.

Is what it is, imo. I don't think it's a fault.
