Full-size SUV or compact SUV? Skip full-size SUVs. They are gas guzzlers.

Is 20-22K how much you can loan or how much you have in cash?

If you are fresh out of college, I would recommend a reliable used vehicle over a new one. Check out used cars that are 2 to 3 years old with a good history. Get a copy of the used car issue from Consumers Reports from the library. It's pretty good.
Brand new cars don't have a history so you don't know their reliability.
Toyota Rav4, Honda CR-V, Nissan Murano, Ford Escape are small SUVs to consider.
Scion xB, Nissan Cube, and Kia Soul are compact SUVs.

Ford Escape is what I have now. I hate it. I've had issues with damn near everything under the hood.

Where do you go to read about car reviews and pictures?

Consumer Reports is the name of the magazine.

They have an online site but you have to pay to read the reports. Most libraries carry this magazine. They have an annual used car guide issue that covers most cars. They have pictures of the cars in their magazine.

May I ask, why are specifically wanting an SUV? If not for business or family transport, there are many excellent cars you can get at that same price with the fuel economy and reliability you desire.

I've driven SUVs all my life. I've tried regular cars and I just don't feel comfortable in them (I'm 6'3).

I suggest using a car buying service... a lot of credit unions have them... it lets you completely spec your car New/used and then have dealers compete to sell you the car... you're given a guaranteed price in writing BEFORE you go to the dealer...

You should be able to save at least $3-4 K off of MSRP

Here's an article:

You're in Texas. It shouldn't be too hard. Me, I'd try to find the last generation Pathfinder, last gen 4Runner, and if you can, squeeze for a 2011+ Grand Cherokee. Midsize SUVs are the best to me.

If you're looking for fuel economy, I'd look tot he crossovers already mentioned.
