AJ from the Sopranos: one of the most pathetic characters in TV history? (minor spoilers)

I'm a few episodes away from finishing the Sopranos.

I like AJ for the comedic element he brought to the show... but this kid had to have been one of the most pathetic characters in TV history

When Tony basically admitted he was ashamed he was his son, with AJ right in front of him... goddamn

This kid's crying in season 6

All the sitting around doing nothing with his life throughout the series

Struggling in high school, dropping out of college, working low-end jobs and watching cartoons all day. Bullshyting away the little he makes at high-end clubs

He's pathetic for sure, but not nearly the most pathetic on the show... that honor goes to Janice hands down. After she f*cked w/ Bobby Bacala's kids while they was on the Ouiji board trying to contact their dead mother, that was it for me. All that to try to get a dude to like you? Doesn't get more pathetic than that.

Piece of shyt move by Janice, for sure, but I'm thinking "pathetic" more in terms of how someone just makes you feel sorry for them because of how they live their lives. With Janice, it's more disdain for her shytty behavior.

actually i think the argument can be made that just about every single character on the show was pathetic.

at least AJ showed signs of life towards the end of the series and started to question things around him. plus you had meadow doing pro bono work for lower class families at that law office she was working that.

tony's kids probably both grew into activists.
