The singer has taken some very daring positions regarding the claim to fame of his label in the world of music, but let’s just say… and some have argued against him. Recently with Nessa at HOT 97, in what could only be described as a scintillating conversation, the singer and Konvict Muzikfounder dropped several serious gems about his career. According to Akon, the label set forth certain industry standards—from creating the very first producer tag to basing the entire worldwide Afrobeatuprising. Well, the Internet may have some front for refuting his claim!

In the interview, Akon explained that Konvict Muzik “coined the idea of industry standard,” and stated that he was the first producer to put an audio tag on a beat, so that everyone would know it was his. Akon also said that he brought auto-tune into the mainstream R&B sphere while mentioning T-Pain, of course. And probably even more so, he discovered really early in 2008 WizKid in Nigeria and hence paved the road for the international rise of Afrobeat.

The comment section minded differently. One user dared to state, “He is NOT the first producer with a tag. Just Blaze might be the first.” Another one joined in: “DarkChild 99 has entered the chat,” referring to producers like Rodney Jerkins tagging tracks way before Akon. And there was one more: In terms of the auto-tune thing, some pointed out that T-Pain himself once said that he discovered that effect all on his own by messing around with the plugins.

Akon declared in the interview that “Konvict Muzik coined the idea of industry standard,” and accused himself of being the first producer who put an audio tag on a beat for everyone to know it was his. Akon also claimed to be credited with the worldwide introduction of auto-tune in R&B while mentioning T-Pain of course. And then there is the discovery of WizKid in 2008, alone having paved the way for the international rise of Afrobeat.

Then there were comments. “He is NOT the first producer with a tag. Just Blaze might be the first,” one user dared to say. Another chimed in: “DarkChild 99 has entered the chat,” referring to producers like Rodney Jerkins tagging records way before Akon. One more alternative; in the case of the auto-tune business, some pointed out that T-Pain himself once said that he discovered that effect all on his own by messing around with the plugins.

Akon alleged that he ventured to Africa to “bring back” the Nigerian star in 2008. And yet, the fans quickly disapproved this. One comment read, “Banky W and Tunde Demuren of Empire Mates record label discovered him, so what’s he talking about?” Another added, “Wizkid got into limelight with his cover ‘Holla at Your Boy’ back in 2010… the egbon can lie ehn.”

Even his claim about being the first R&B artist to rap about street life got clapped back. “Jaheim was definitely a part of the journey talking about the ghetto, and etc,” one person wrote. Another mentioned TQ, proving Akon wasn’t exactly breaking new ground there either.

And then there are the shady ones: “Akon is becoming notorious for lying, he just go to podcasts and lie,” remarked one Redditor. “If you see a African with a perm, watch him he Lying,” joked another.

There were, of course, hiccups in the claims—a few being undeniable. In particular, for instance, Akon signing Lady Gaga before she became a worldwide phenomenon. But attempts to rewrite history aren’t going to happen on the internet. Whether it’s an exaggeration or simply an instance of forgetfulness, one thing is for sure—the fans are doing their live fact-checking.

Now, what would be the verdict? Akon was surely big in influencing some trends in music; however, for him to claim that he invented just about everything—the producer tags, Afrobeat—there might be cause for argument. The argument is keeping social media alive—anyway, that’s one industry standard that cannot be denied.

Every now and then for past 10 years or so I see some post saying that Akon is bringing self-sustaining free electricity to Western Africa, or Akon is building a new city or whatever the fukk. :mjlol:

Then I see that all he’s done as part of this is release a scammer digital coin that was supposed to be used there that lost 99% of its value already.

He seems smart, he should be better at scamming but even his astroturf ass dome was exposed on the quickest of glances :flabbynsick:

Darkchild would drop his name, Just Blaze, David Banner, Mike Jones, Nitti was putting tags early as hell too.

Akon is addicted to lying for no reason.

This statement reminded me of song on a Jaheim album that came out years before we knew who Akon was....

"But don't go messin' with this girl
Just 'cause you get fukked up
You can bet that ass nikka
I'm still ghetto for you "
