A rising Jersey City rapper who was acquitted of murder two years ago is one of two people who were grazed by gunfire on a city street Tuesday night, a police source said yesterday.
Albert "Albee Al" Robinson, 27, suffered a gunshot wound to his right forearm in the incident at Baldwin Avenue and Rock Street at 6:50 Tuesday night, said a person with knowledge of the investigation, but is not authorized to discuss it. Robinson refused medical attention.
In 2014 Robinson was acquitted at trial in the killing of Jermaine Williams in 2010. Robinson was accused of throwing Williams into the Hudson River after Williams was shot by Robinson's cousin, Joshua Robinson. Joshua Robinson was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Williams' murder.
He is not named in a report provided yesterday afternoon by Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill, but Robinson is described as leaving the scene and later returning.
The second victim was grazed in the lower back by the same gunfire less than a block away, at Baldwin Avenue near Academy Street, Morrill said. The man, who appeared to be in his mid-20s, was treated at the Jersey City Medical Center.
On NJ.com/Hudson, The Jersey Journal reported Tuesday night that there was a report of a shooting on Summit Avenue at roughly the same time, but Morrill said yesterday there was only one shooting scene.
Tuesday night at 10 p.m. Robinson took to the social media website Snapchat to celebrate dodging serious injury. In the brief video, he chants "Bullets must be blanks 'cause they keep missing."
Jersey City police said the investigation is on ongoing.
