Seven people were shot in separate incidents Wednesday and early Thursday in South and West side neighborhoods, police said.
The most recent shooting happened about 4 a.m. and left a 21-year-old man wounded. He was shot in the parking lot shared by a currency exchange and a Checkers Drive-In Restaurant at Garfield Boulevard and Wentworth Avenue.
The man was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County with wounds to his leg and buttocks. Police used a "Class of 2014" graduation program to mark the location of evidence inside the crime scene, which encompassed most of the parking lot.
Police said the man heard shots and felt pain, and did not elaborate on what else may have happened prior to the shooting.
Just before midnight, a man was shot in the 7900 block of South Escanaba Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood. The 23-year-old was shot in the face and back and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Police said his condition had been stabilized.
Police found a separate crime scene just outside a gas station at 76th Street and Exchange Avenue. There, a car with its window shot out sat inside red and yellow crime scene tape.

A young man waited in handcuffs at the Escanaba scene. The Chicago Police Department's office of news affairs said no one was in custody.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the face and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, according to Estrada.

At 4:25 p.m. a 28-year-old man was shot as he rode as a passenger in a van on the 6600 block of South Union Avenue, said Police News Affairs officer Thomas Sweeney.
The man was shot after another vehicle drove up and shot into the vehicle, said Sweeney. The victim is a documented gang member and convicted felon, Sweeney said.

The victim was shot in the ear and was in good condition at St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, Sweeney said.
At 7:50 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the right side on the 6000 block of South Francisco in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, Sweeney said.
The man managed to get himself to Holy Cross Hospital where he was transferred to Moutn Sinai Hospital where his condition had stabilized, Sweeney said. No other details.
At 8:35 p.m. two men were shot in the Brainerd neighborhood, police said. The men were walking on the 1300 block of West 91st Street when people went up to them and began talking and then began shooting, said Sweeney.
