Albert Hughes: Dead Presidents is flawed, took years for them to think Boyz N the Hood was a good movie, American Me is better than every hood film.

I think Dead President did seem overly flawed in 95. However, its aged very well. I kinda prefer it over Menace.

I think as best as he tried Tyrin Turner just wasnt the best lead actor for that movie.

More interesting stuff happened to Cain, but Cuba was just a better lead actor as Tre in Boyz.

This,Tyrin is the flaw:mjlol:

I think the fresh faces played a huge part in Menace initial hype/love. These seemed like real dudes so we could buy them as those characters. However, the more you watch you realize Larenz Tate is just operating on a completely different level than Tyrin in that movie. His acting doesnt really carry the scenes when O-Dog isnt around.

If y’all love Dead Presidents like that, y’all should check out the movie The Deer Hunter

You can tell that movie influenced them a great deal for Dead Presidents the same way Goodfellas inspired them for Menace II Society

Scorsese was a big influence on them. The Goodfellas influence in Menace was obvious.

I always though the domestic fight scene in Dead Presidents about Cutty reminded me of a similar scene in Raging Bull when Jake is arguing with Vicki and convinced that she’s cheating on him.

Yup

I remember one of them saying how influential Scorsese was on them

Wow your right, both those arguing scenes do run parallel

And the scene where Cain beat Chauncey is parallel to Tommy beating Billy Batts in Goodfellas
The voice over narration from kid to adult. The crazy killer friend. The one take scene that introduces all the "gangsters"

It borrowed heavy.

But again there is a reason people remember Chauncey and O'Dog. Clifton Powell and Larenz Tate are really good actors. Glenn Plummer & Charles Dutton just stand out in the one scene they have.

I think there's a reason a movie like Clockers still generates extra layers years later. Yea it had a few rappers, but thats almost like acknowledging era. Rappers are street dudes who dont really matter to the plot. However, the main characters are filled with a bunch of great actors. So even as raw and exciting as Menace is you're only essentially waiting for another good actor to pop up that keeps you locked in.

Speaking of Dead Presidents, that nikka Terrence Howard always play the character that’ll say some shyt to get under your skin, make you really want to fight his ass.

“Cutty used to tap that ass while you was over in ‘Nam”
